Hi all.
Well now is the time to let you know about my new classic! :)
You know what they say about classic cars, when you are looking for one?
That there is one out there with your name on it? :)
Well this was the case with this car,,,LITERALLY!!! so I just had to buy it!!

After buying the reg number ATR 6H,for my 1970 TR6,I hankered after a plate for the Rover.
I missed out on ROV 35B by about £75 quid at an auction, and had then decided it would be better to get a plate personal to me,so I can stick it on any future classic I own!!
Then,,,,,A MIRACLE HAPPENED!!!
I spotted this plate on sale with a dealer,I made an offer, only to be told,it was provisionally accepted, but the owner needs to get it MOT'd before it can proceed.
Eventually it was withdrawn from sale as the owner was elderly and couldnt get the MOT sorted.
I then started a search to find the owner of the plate, and had no idea what car it was on.
Then the dealer let slip about a 6v battery,so that gave me a clue to look for a VW.
The DVLA search proved it was a 1967 VW1500 and been off the road since 1988.
After about a year of searching and asking on the VW forums etc,and with the help of the DVLA forwarding a letter to the owner, I finally made contact with the owner to find it was a VW Karmann Ghia, and it was a rare RHD one as well!
Bought from Chelsea Cars on the Kings road London in June 1967.
A few Emails, pics and chats were made, and on the way back from Stoneleigh,I went to view it,as luckilly he was only 7 miles away,a haggle commenced and I bought it.
Now with luck,I can get the mot sorted, give it a good clean up,transfer the plate, and sell it on to a budding young enthusiast hopefully for a small profit.
More pics here!!

I can now officially say that I am a proper poser!! :D

Well done, that's not what we expected at all! The Ghia looks really straight, I'll give you £300 for it... final offer.

Well done Pilkie

I thought it might have something to do with that plate :D

The Karmann Ghia is a lovely car.....no I don't want one

Dave

Thats on a Nissan Navara Outlaw pick up.

Sounds 'tasteful'... Sorry - even i can't be that sarcastic.

Last time i checked the value of that was sky high - no way i could run to that!

Definitely a great find for you though :O)

Rich.

That actually looks really tidy! I never realised they had imitation wood dash's. Makes you realise how advanced the P6 was in its day.

Be careful, you might even find you like VW Coupes!

Chris

Fitted new plugs, cleaned contacts, fresh fuel, and it started within seconds and sounds great! :D
I have only ever heard them running before and its sounding as it should!
Clutch works and ive driven it in and out of garage, brakes need looking at,as does wiring, but thats easily sorted.
I can now get it up on the ramp easier and have a real good poke about underneath.

Mmmm

I do like that ;) - congratulations on finding your plate!

Come on over next sunday Jim,you know you want to have a play with it!
And I could do with an experienced VW beetle owner looking it over! :)

VW splitties are serious money!!
I wonder how long it will take for a KG to get that silly??
No!
I cant wait that long, ive gotta move it on once its MOT'd and the plate is transferred to the V8!! :)

KG's I love em :) They are worth thousands when sorted! shame they have the lawn mower engine though, but saying that with a flat six from a porsche will sort it!

Never been my cup of tea, but can see why you bought it :)

Be warned, these are no rocket ship either

Nice one Dave. Much as though I don't like number plates being taken off old cars, this one is a no-brainer!

Cheers
Nick

Struth Pilkie, that's a lot of effort to go to for a plate, but I suspect it's not going to cost you much in the long term. The KG looks pretty solid though and the early (sixties) ones with their delicate chrome bumpers and smaller lights are so much nicer that the seventies ones.

I hope you can pass it on to an enthusiast who'll keep it on the road once you've recommisioned it.

If our absent friend was still with us , he'd be saying to put a Porsche 911 turbo engine in it !!
Don't know what you paid for it but looks like a good deal

Will let a new owner have the pleasure of doing what they want to it!!!
All I bought it for was the plate, and as for what I paid, thats known by a priveledged few and the bank manager!
I would be happy to get back what it costs me so I end up with PLK1E for free, but if I can make a few quid as well, thats even better!
It all helps pay for the V8's forthcoming repaint!
