Hi all.

Ive been thinking of taking a trip to NZ when my chemo is finished and I am up to it!
This will probably be later this year,or possibly early next year!
Now it would be great if all things fell in place and I could do the trip for Xmas and New year, but that is at the expensive flight time of year!!
It would be a 3-4 wk trip!
Got me thinking?
Wouldnt it be great if I could hire, rent, borrow a nice P6 for my trip???? :)
I would be flying into Auckland,so could pick up from there or the airport and travelling up north to Waipu to my mums place.
From there I would just be lazy and stay local doing day trips with mum and mike my stepdad, who are both 75.
With possible visits to fellow classic car owners I know on the various forums I frequent.
If anyone in NZ knows of anywhere or anyone who maybe able to help then let me know!!
We can then have a chat about it via phone or maybe skype!

Cheers Dave

Hi Pilkie, I'd love to help but I just sold the reliable V8. :? Still, you never know what I might have on the road in a year. No guarantees though.
Regardless I'd be happy to help out with Auckland airport collection and such if required and I do happen to work for a rental car company so if there is no P6 available I could easily arrange a reasonably priced Japanese car for your stay. :)

Hi Al.
Many thanks for the offer of help!
Now why on earth did you sell the reliable V8???
Will have to see whats available when the time comes!
A good deal on a Jap is appreciated if all else fails!!
Dave

No worries Pilkie.
Why did I sell the reliable V8? I'm starting to wonder that myself! It has something to do with a lack of space and a Triumph Stag unfortunately.
Still, this might prompt me to pull the manual V8 out of storage. You never know what i'll have. Keep me posted on your plans and i'll help in any way I can.

Put me on your hit list for a meet up Mr P
Ive chatted with you so often on here , it would be nice to share a beer .
I have a shirt that will match that one you had the kahuna's to wear on a posting here way back - next to the woodie if I recall .
I'll wear my dark sunnies if you appear in that thing .
Im not able to supply a P6 - sorry .
Gerald

Hi Gerald.
Will do,but it will have to be a OJ or cuppa as I dont drink!
You must mean this little ensemble I save for car shows!

I can't help with a car, Pilkie, but if you get adventurous enough to pass through the South Island I'd be very happy to have a coffee with you and swap war stories. Might even be able to offer you a bed.

Waipu is part of my old stamping ground - I lived at nearby Ruakaka when aged 8 to 14. Still love the area - the breathtaking view when you reach the top of the Brynderwyn Hills as you drive north is just superlative.

Got a bed for you here in Auckland Pilkie if you arent shooting thru to WhyPooh the same day .
I make a mean pizza from my oven in the garden too, if you want a bit of lunch . I'll get Al to join us for an inter nation P6 meeting .
Sorry didnt realise you were off the firewater .Be that Op you had ? A catch up in Auckland city , over some other bevy if you aren't staying about then ?
I bet your Mum's excited about your visit !!
Wear that shirt when you get off the plane so we can spot ya !!
Gerald

Ha! Thanks Gerald, you've just reminded me: when I was 10 or so, my schoolmates and I used to refer to our neighbouring town as "Why Pooh When You Can Pee?" We thought it was a right hoot.

I'm actually heading up that way this weekend for my annual holidays (camping at Uretiti) so I will be popping in to the Waipu museum on a semi-regular basis for my internet fix.

Here's one when I was a kid :
Oh how , many cow , live in Otaki ?
Bastardised from the Maori names -
Ohau ,Manakau , Levin , Otaki
All towns you drive through on the way south to Wellington

Another for Waipu - stink town eh !

Actually for the poor freezing souls in the northern hemisphere - Waipu was first settled by the Scottish immigrants in early European times of NZ history . Gateway to some of the best coast and beaches in Northland and a haven for sun surf sand and fishing . A hard place to leave .
I can see why Kiwirover is heading up that way for a break from the super city .

My mum and mike are part of the museum team,so ask for chris or mike when you go there!

If you make it South to Christchurch, can meet up as I am sure both Warren and I will enjoy a bit of a yarn.

Are you one of those "naturists", Al? When I was a lad at Ruakaka, Uretiti had earned infamy as a nudist stronghold.

Part of the beach (down from the campground) is 'clothing optional'. It's not much fun during the week, just the retired sun worshipers (think bronze leather seats). But the weekends can be a bit more entertaining. :D However while I may take my shirt off on the first day, I usually get horribly burnt and spend the rest of the time thoroughly covered up! I only go to the beach because the missus drags me anyway. Boring.
I did say hi to your Mum a few years ago Pilkie. If it weren't for the internet facilities there I don't think i'd survive the holiday.

You sound a bit like me, Al. I generally have more fun sticking around home than I do going away. I know, it's sad, but I doubt we're the only ones like it floating around here.

Yep. A couple of days doing nothing is nice but then I start thinking about all the projects I could be tinkering with while I'm not working. And all I can do is make plans and draw pictures.

Ah, that's a Welsh name...

Yes. Waipu was famously settled by Scots. There's still an annual bagpipe festival there, with a multitude of food stalls selling haggis of every flavour. They managed to confine the Welsh to the hills just to the south after a series of bitter campaigns in which the Welsh tried but failed to outsing the Scottish bagpipe regiments. OK, I just made that up, but there could be an interesting story behind the name.

A holiday for me HAS!!! to involve doing something on a classic car,or a related activity!
In 2009 my annual 4 wk hol allowance was spent building my double garage and fitting it out, with the odd bit of car related tinkering! :D
Most of my weeks off are spent doing some resto, refurb on my cars, but I really should spend some time doing up my house! ,,,, NAH!!!
If I were to go overseas on hols,it would ideally be to a fellow classic car owner needing assistance restoring a car!
