If you had a P6 and a salvage yard.....

Hi all,
while I'm a huge fan of the P6 in it's standard form, and not really a modifier at heart, I've often thought about what I'd do in terms of drive train swaps and conversions if I had a pile of cash, plenty of time, and a mechanically dead P6 on my hands. Personally, as a diesel man, I'd fancy the thought of a 2000TD with the engine and box from a BMW 320d auto, or if really carried away a 3700SD with a range rover TDV8. Or how about a hybrid diesel to wipe the smile off Prius drivers. So if you had the car, the money, a big workshop and a salvage yard, what would you do?

Dave

Wash your mouth out!!! They don't like our engine in there cars, so we won't have there's in ours.

Oh, and I'd probably truncate it so the front doors close into the rear door position making a 2 door.
None of this "Are we there yet from the small-fry, then"......

And, while I was busy, maybe wide wheels and coil-overs on all 4 corners.
Oh dear, the brain has gone into overdrive.........

If money were no object a Pratt & Whitney PT6C couple to some form of variable differential would be cool.

I wonder if a 6v92T Detroit would fit in there? Nice set of open pipes, injection pump opened up and a jake brake! It would sound fantastic and I could 'smoke' cyclists that insist on cycling 2 a breast on narrow roads  .

The main way to cool the engine bay with a turbine is air flow around the engine.
They run at 700+ degrees and only huge airflow can shift that heat away.

Oh, and 200 pounds of fuel an hour at IDLE.........

I would have an Audi A4 or A6 with the 3.0TDi engine, the auto box and quattro drive and blend them together :D

There just has to be a way of doing that.

Just spent the week touring around Scotland in my A6 and to have that power, and driveability with the looks of a P6 would be just right

A power plant amalgam of my GTO and p6 would be nice  4WD and 320 BHP with a 5 or 6 speed manual. I am certain it is possible and GTO TT's are so cheap here n NZ its criminal even cheaper than p6's

200 lb/hour fuel burn sounds about the same as my stock 3500 when I drive it! Bring on the PT6! Just need to find a Pilatus PC12 as a donor vehicle now..

Seeing as Rover were working on a shoehorned turbine, as some of your suggestions reflect, I am of the opinion that technology was still a little too young and they should've stuck with radials. Fit a Wright R-4360 to it. Maybe in a 5/8th scale. That should not suffer such excessive heat generation. Compared to the whines and whistling of a turbine It would also make it sound rather nice, say, passing at B-road speeds...

A BMW M67 V8 diesel would be a good second choice from my personal scrappers'.

I'd go for the "There's no replacement for displacement" approach and bung in a
Dodge V10....
I like your thinking. But if I was going to put something mental in it would be a V8 HEMI :D

It's a pity project iceberg never made it to production, we could pull the engine and box from an SD1 otherwise!

Probably a more realistic option would be a small block ford that is in the 75/ZT but go for a 302 from a mustang for the extra cc's. Its about the same size as our own v8 plant.
