In with the new!

This title is probably a bit harsh, but I thought I'd let forum members know that I've taken the decision to retire Lady Charlotte from everyday use. She's done me proud over the past few years, with only one breakdown requiring a recovery truck in the past 5 years and 82,000 miles. Even when suffering from recent exhaust valve woes she still kept going. Unfortunately, I now no longer have the time that she needs to maintain her in tip top condition for everyday use and particularly to make sure she's protected from the harsh winter driving she's endured here in the Scottish Borders. So she now rests happily in the garage after I took delivery of a modern steed. Someone asked me recently if I could hear her sigh with relief when I closed the garage door... and you know...I think I can :)

If anyone is interested the new car is pictured below. It's a 2016 (66 Plate, rather appropriate I thought) VW Passat 2.0 diesel GT spec. That makes it almost exactly 50 years older than Lady Charlotte.

I've just bought on of those, you'll be wondering what to do with all the fuel money you save now. It's averaging 50.9mpg and that's with a rep driving it o_O

Don't forget she's in the garage mind, they don't like it when they're not driven :)

PS I think it's almost exactly 50 years newer ;)

Doh! yes of course. I'm averaging mid 50s mpg over the first 1000 or so miles.

The plan is to take the old lady out every other weekend for a run, yes even in the winter, then use her once a week for work in the summer.
