Inlet Manifold Question

Hi all

Stupid question time.

I'm a first time Rover owner with a 74 P6B 3500 and i'm in the process of tidying up the engine a little bit. Question - what is the little pipe sticking out of the inlet manifold between the carbs for please?

I recently had the manifold off and had the core plugs replaced and I suspect this pipe is blocked, is this likely to cause any issues?

Cheers

It allows cooling water to flow through the carb tower and if it is blocked you could get issues with vapour lock.
The fix is to try to either drill it out if you can get access or to hammer a sharp tool into the tube and get it open that way.

Thanks John.

The manifold is off the car at the moment and I'm keen to clean out the passage way to prevent any problems later on. Do you (or anyone else) know where to access to passageway for this?

Cheers

Try soaking the manifold in coca cola over night . A google search "rust removal with coke" is a good watch . Cleans the toilet too !!!

if its plated just don't use bleach for rust removal I made that mistake with some jubilee clips and it took all the plating off

Hi, It's not the passage or chamber that blocks up, just the steel pipe that closes up
because the hole is small. It's just to let the air bleed out of the tower not for any
real flow to the top of the radiator. The core plug on top gives access to the chamber,
underneath removal of the core plug there reveals the drilling for the coolant to pass
into the upper chamber. There is not much to see really or go wrong, just the steel
pipe which the hole closes up.

Thanks for your help. I managed to clear out the pipe no problem and decided to use my wife's bike pump to check for any other blockages. Attached it to the pipe and blew a heap of rubbish out the back, nice and clean now.

Cheers
