intermittent windscreen washer motor

Hi guys,

would faulty or worn connectors cause a washer motor to work intermittently? ive had some bother with mine recently. the old one wasnt working so the car failed its mot. i bought a new motor, it worked fine at first but then started being a bit intermittent. i thought it was an issue with the hose inside the bottle so i pulled it up a little so it wasnt tight against the bottom of the bottle, and everything seemed fine. car was due in for mot today and motor wasnt working again.
well i say not working, it could be heard turning over but it just wasnt picking up water. then the negative terminal connector perished. it was very worn. i trimmed the cable to expose fresh wire and tried re-inserting into the connector. couldnt really get it in right as it had been crimped but i could get the motor to turn over again. sadly still not drawing up water though.
so, could faulty connectors be the issue? the motor clearly works as it has peformed ok on occasion. but could faulty/worn connectors cause the intermiitency and also cause the motor to run but just with not enough juice to suck up water?

apologies for the rambling message. trying to give as much detail as possible.

I found with mine the pump had to be primed try disconnecting the pipe after the pump somewhere and sucking some water through and the reconnect.
as to the wiring u will have to put a new connector on the bit of wire as they should be crimped onto the wire.
hope this helps

no, havent got a non return valve fitted. have also tried the siphoning but that didnt help. its the intermittent nature of it thats confusing me. the only clear fault i can see which may have been behind it is the loose (now broken) connector.

hi if I were u I would repair the connector properly before u do anything else. then suck some fluid through the pump and with the pipe still disconnected get someone to operate the switch and see if the water pumps out. if not I would guess that the intermittent fault has run the pump dry and its what's technically known as nfg.

I am also assuming that the pump is mounted on the top of the washer bottle.
hope this helps
