Is insurance a rip off ?

My guess would be he moved to Tottenham. :?
When I renewed my classic car insurance on my xr3 they also refused to cover me  I asked why after using them for 8 years this has happened and that my renewal for my rover would be up in July so was I still insured on that :?: they said they would look into it and call me back, which they did an hour later appologising for an error on thier system and took payment for my renewal which had increassed by £48 from the previous year :( :(

Bloody RIOUTER'S  :?: :?:

I'll just add my recent experience of renewing my families policies.
We were all on an Admiral multi car policy, two teenage daughters, my wife and myself.
Our renewal came in at a total of just under £2000. All our policies had risen but the girls had done so excessively with one rising to over £600 and the other to over £700.
I decided to try and better the quotes, having first queried the rise with Admiral to be told thats the best they can do.
I found a cheaper policy with Castle cover, and found the girls a better quote through Diamond, this was before looking for a better quote for the wife.
So we decided to ditch admiral and go to seperate providers as it was working out cheaper.
My wife then phoned Diamond to ensure the internet quote for the girls was correct. The guy asked who they were insured with currently. She told him we were all on Admiral multi car but it was too steep. He then informed her Diamond was part of Admiral and wether she would like him to see if he could get a better quote for us all on Admiral multi car!!!!!
And guesss what....magically this guy gets us a total quote with Admiral for just over £1400, albeit as new customers and not as a renewal.
That was cheaper than the total of the original multi car policy.
So pleased that we have all ended up with cheaper insurance but bloody annoyed that we do get ripped off on so many levels.
If this sort of pricing is out there why do you have to jump through hoops to get it and why is such a total lack of transparency in who is actually providing insurance allowed.
On a chance call to one company, Diamond, to check details for a quote we end up with a multi car policy with Admiral £500 cheaper than the best they purported was possible as a renewal.

the multiple company fronts is all about obfuscation. bell insurance and elephant are admiral too iirc.

I believe that the insurance companys are no longer interested in keeping customers (customer retention) but are targetted on new business gain for thier stats. Therefore offer new customers the best deals to win thier business then try to recoupe on renewal hoping we can't be bothered to shop around with our hectic lifestyles etc.

Well I was certainly confused, bewildered and stupified by my experience. To me this is just sharp practice marginally better than scamming. I don't believe these sort of practices are morally acceptable and they do not occur because "we" as a collective put up with it, my opinion is it occurs because those in a position to do something about it choose not to, (vested interests??), and we as a collective do not have a representative body to challenge such practice.
It would be nice if there was some kind of consumer body with real teeth and statutory powers to put an end to this sort of dealing.

For years now I have gone through the same process every year, cancel the renewal, and sign up again as a new customer, often with the same insurer, always saves money, and despite complaining several times they just aren't interested, so it's just easier to cancel and start again.

That probably is the answer - they have targets on new policies , rather than customer retention ,even though it is known to be 5 times cheaper to keep a customer than find a new one .They must just be complacent thinking most people will pay up , no question.
The best we can do is play them at their own game

When I challenged one of them, he said that it was less effort for them because the online systems are fully automated, you enter all the details. I did suggest that they already had all my details, so wasn't exactly taxing for the renewal, but he wasn't having any of it. So when I said that it was £40 cheaper to renew online (same company) and that I would like to cancel the renewal and do it online, he said "Well if that's what you want to do"....... err yes, I want to save £40 for the sake of 5 minutes putting my details in again, Yes.

All I can think is that there are a lot of people that don't bother and just renew, making them considerably more money, so they're just not interested. Very strange way to do business, but it must work for them.
