That the Rover 2000 was launched via a morning sales team briefing at Rover, and a reception in the afternoon at Solihull Town Hall.

This photo of the briefing at Solihull sat on the sales office wall for many years after.

Thanks for posting that Nick, I've been wondering when the 'actual' day was all summer.

Staff meetings never change though do they?

Fantastic Nick. Thanks for posting.

That's a great photo.

I think the one on the left is poverty spec !!

I don't know how many of those they actually made, but the Main Stealer that I worked at had one in their showroom for years, and I ended up towing it to the local college for them to use on the Motor vehicle courses in the mid 70s. It had all the mechanicals fitted inside cutaway casings, with a lot of the internals chrome plated along with a lot of other chrome plated bits, and the rest of the running gear all painted pale blue. There were cutaways in the base unit so you could see what was hidden away there. The starter would slowly turn the engine so you could see all the internals moving. I bet the college ended up scrapping it......

I believe these items I have here are from the launch. (I have mentioned them on the Forum a couple of years ago, but for anyone who hasn't seen...)

The silver charm was given out to the ladies present at the launch dinner.

The paperweight was given to the salesmen who were present.

The silver charm measures approximately 3cm long x 1cm wide x 8mm high.

On the base it is engraved ‘SILVER ROVER 2000 MADE IN ENGLAND’.

On the rear bumper is a little ring to allow it to be attached to a charm bracelet or to a necklace etc.

It comes in a cream coloured presentation box, which bears the Rover insignia on the inner liner of the lid, and has a red velvet base.

The paperweight is made from acrylic plastic and is approximately 7cm in diameter.

It has cast into it the same silver Rover 2000 charm. Along with the original ROVER 2000 script used at the launch of the P6.

Blimey, 50 years eh...?!

That picture of the launch event is absolutely superb... You can only wonder what the sales people thought when they saw the P6 for the first time...?!

I'd love to see some more pictures of this event...

When I showed the photo (which is on a piece of card I picked up with some other staff-related Rover stuff a couple of years ago) to Lyn Thomas he recognised the chap giving the briefing - it's thought the gents listening are representatives of the major dealers e.g. Henlys.

James Taylor has got the programme for the day in his files, with the menu for the afternoon souree at Solihull Town Hall. Priceless.
