John, yes, indeed grim. The Canadians had them too and lost about 50% of their F-104s. It wasn't called the Widowmaker or Flying Coffin for nothing. I like this account of Chuck Yeager ejecting from an F-104: http://www.check-six.com/Crash_Sites/NF104-YeagerInterview.htm
