Kick-down cable adjustment, 1976 P6B.

Hale and Hearty Greetings again,

Would anyone be able to furnish the forum with a detailed description of how to adjust the kick-down cable on Winston ('76 P6B).
I have similar issues to recently posted subjects regarding rough down-shift (2-1) and delay in up-shift (2-3). I also notice that my kick-down is not exactly the most reliable at the most vital moments.

This would appear to indicate that the cable needs adjusting, hence the need for help. Photos would be absolutely awesome, failing that diagrams if possible.

Sorry to ask, but the Autobooks workshop manual isn't exactly helpful.

Regards to all and I look forward to replies.

Firstly make sure that the nylon bush in the throttle bracket is in good condition, and the fluid level is correct. The symptoms you describe are normally a sign that the pressures are too high, so that means that the outer cable needs to be screwed upwards in the bracket gradually, while road testing the car until the shift speeds are correct. You really need the factory WM to give you all the data you need. High pressures make it more likely to kickdown, so I can't think what problem you're having with that as your description tells me nothing, and lowering the pressures will make the kickdown less likely to function if you go too far.

Only thing I can think of offhand that would give late changes (high pressures) but no kickdown would be if there is something stopping you getting full throttle, such as the carpet jammed up under the pedal.
