Leaking 5 way brake union. What can I do?

20170312_205132.jpgThe plastic sender is leaking brake fluid. I wonder if I should just put a blind plug there instead. Fortunately I have used silicone brake fluid so the new paint is not damaged.
Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain this plastic sender separately from any suppliers?

Hi Barten.
I repaired my NADA one.
There is only a shuttle valve inside with a simple small O ring .
Being brass it doesn't corroded inside.
Got my kit here in U/K from a triumph stag parts suppliers ( about £6 if i remember)
You only get that small seal and copper washers.
Can find the name when in garage tomorrow if anybody's interested.
Regards.
Clive.

Hi Clive, Thanks for the answer. I seem to remember that Shuttle valve inside it and I think that I overhauled it some years ago. But the leak seems to come right out through the plastic contact. If you zoom in you can see the fluid around the 2 contacts. Anyway I will dismantle the union and see whats inside. Maybe I find the reason.

I have looked for them with Rimmer, B&G and Moss. Unfortunately it is listed as a no longer available part. But I see they have repair kits for it so I better crack on with finding out whats wrong!

I took the union apart. The shuttle looked ok with the 2 o-rings. I put i together, put in the switch and bled the brakes. The after a short while brake fluid came out of the plastic switch. I think I need a new switch. But dont know if its available. I see the whole unit can be sourced thanks to Andries tip. I am going to the NEC for the practical classics restoration show on the 1st of April. Maybe I can find it there.

That one should work. I dont know if it has got the pin Harvey mentioned, cannot see that side of it. But thanks!

I was under the impression that using silicon fluid resulted in these sort of problem i.e.. rubber destruction . I stand corrected if wrong. just saying.

Well, it does not look like the silicone fluid has ruined any rubber. At least the o-rings looked sound. But maybe if it is rubber seals inside the switch.

For the past couple of days I've been going thru PWDA trouble myself too.... I've learned (amongst other things) that the switch is not meant to be fluid tight - if it leaks the seals are bad.... I really screwed-up trying to get the old PWDA unit off - stripped to hell a couple of the brake line fittings - Also haven't been able to get the unit apart..., will try compressed air t-mow.....

Ok. That was good info. Maybe my seals are bad any way then. The shuttle was quite easy to move. I will try to get a repair kit for it. I think I saw one with Rimmer bros.

I just ordered a repair kit and a new pressure switch from Rimmer. £35 incl air mail to Norway. I noticed it has 4 o-rings in the kit. On my shuttle valve it was just 2 on it, but the grooves were wider i think. I have consulted the parts list on rover classics, but they don't show the internals in the pdwa. Maybe this is the whole problem!
