Leather door card covers on Ebay.

Hi Harvey, yes they are the ones and I will be fitting them to a series 2 car I have looked at the complete door cards on Ebay any suggestions to any other suppliers and quality. regards Ray.

They do appear to do a lot of rover p6 specific stuff... Centre console covers and dash upper covers. Could look nice i think if fitted right!

Very difficult to bond (Laminate) anything onto 40 year old vinyl. Good luck with that :?

Surely the leather would be far better replacing the vinyl completely. Simply sticking it over the existing cover seems a very Heath-Robinson state of affairs, to me at least.

I'd say it goes over the vinyl. Even if I am wrong it is still 40 years old.

To have any hope of proper adhesion you'll need to get the vinyl surface as clean, grease free and dry as possible. As a stage zero I'd recommend Cif cream or a similar mild abrasive cream, then possibly some panel wipe or other non-aggressive solvent.

I'm tempted by these.

I agree with testrider. The vinyl even if split can be repaired fairly well from the back without being very conspicuous. I glued on the webbing you use to repair clothes.

However when the hardboard goes out of shape then they look knackered. If I were to remake these, I'd use marine ply.

The covers just look wrong to me. The diagonal stripe is there why? Black especially can be easily matched and 2m of Ambla isn't expensive. You could do a near undetectable job with this using the original holes in the hardboard for stitching.

Hi Thanks for the reply's I was thinking of using marine ply, as my cards are ok but not mint, It was the covering I was looking at I'm thinking of using plain vinyl.

I would personally avoid. There is no way on earth these will look straight and crisp if stuck over the existing vinyl. Plus the existing vinyl has a sewn horizontal line near the top of the trim that would be absent.

I had 2 new rear cards made up in plywood, upholstered in the original vinyl, complete with the sewing line - these cost me £20 each IIRC, but it was around 5 years ago. £50 notes is a lot to spend on something that is likely to look like a pound of mince. :|

I'd imagine the extra thickness wouldn't fit nicely under the door capping either.

They look a bit 'plastic' and odd with diagonal stitching.
As already stated - a lot of work to fit onto new cards.

Mark.
