long term NADA project !!!!!!!

hi,
Over the past 3 years my dad has bought me several p6s all of which he has sold but this time he has bought me a californian rust free nada which will be registed in my name. The general idea is to do a long term rolling restoration including:
New paint
New carpets
Fix aircon
Tidy up interior(my dad has sourced me some good proper nada front seats)(thanks roly :D )
Fit front e.t and rear headrests (already have tucked away in my stash of goodies)
Colour was originaly brigade red it was then painted a silver and i think it was painted brown after that but am going to paint it back in its original colour (which will go great with its original ebony vinyl box pleat interior)
The car needs a new exhaust i have a s/h mild steel down pipe and a s/h stainless steel back box. Looking for a small bore middle box in either mild or stainless if anyone has one. I do have a good spare mild steel rear box SB if anyone wants to do a swap.
I best start saving up :D

The car is no 343 of the 2043 that went to the states.

a few pictures of my sons new car, still in san diego.
the owner is going to drive it to long beach on tuesday, where it will get shipped back over to england. it will be around 5 - 6 weeks before we see it.

I told my dad that it would polish up but he thought it would look a bit naf even though the top of it has faded due to the sun lol :D

Looks like a brilliant project there! Great to get such a lovely rot-free base to start from! I look forward to reading the updates!

I see that the surround around the air conditioning switches is in good condition. Often they are cracked, so if you have to do any work on those switches there, I would recommend taking great care, as this part is as rare as hens teeth.

Good luck. I need to find a good NADA 3500 one of these days to go with my 2000 TC.

James.

hi james,
i have more pictures and unfortunately the fascia is cracked and broken under where they join together and the lugs broken at the bottom. i do know how rare they are and i have a couple of better ones here for my own car and one for this car of my sons.

i also forgot to say i am only 13 so have a lot to learn and my dad has set me off with the small jobs.

he also has let me use the shotblaster, so i can clean and respray all the metal brackets etc up.

13 is a good time to get bitten by the bug. I grew up on a farm and
spent a of of time dismantling and (sort of) reassembling the remains
of Dad's old Fordson Major tractor.
It stuck, and now I make a living tinkering with helicopters.... :)

hi john,
he started a couple of years ago dismantling push bikes, brake levers stripped off one bike and put on his. before i built my workshop, bike bits all over the garden and tools as well. i could have throttled him. he is getting a lot better now and is probably tidier than me. he has also taken more interest this last year in wanting to know how things work, he used to be excited just to go and shot blast something i gave him. we stripped the air-con heater box down and he kept asking whats this, what's that do, which i enjoy being able to tell him as he is interested, so it sinks in, hopefully

The car should be at the docks today so it shall be a long wait for 5-6 weeks while it is getting fetched from the sunny states to freezing cold britain !!!! Its all very exiting stuff :) :) :)

Good thinking on your part Ian, teach him, then when your too old you have a ready made restorer. Why did I not think like that..... Seriously though what a great thing to get him interested in, good luck with it young un.

Excellent. I thought about going to look at this, but great to hear it is getting back to blighty and will hopefully last a bit longer than it would have over here.

I guess it makes my remaining San Diego 3500 a bit rarer then......

Nice job on the rescue !

Cheers

Thanks for the positive feedback. hopefully it will look as good as it does in the pictures when I see it in six weeks time (fingers crossed)
