I used to own this rover back in 1990-1991. I purchased it for £200 on Christmas eve 1990. it had been sitting in a front garden in new malden in surrey for years. believe it or not, a new battery was all that was required for it to start and drive. we managed to drive it to where I lived which was around 2 miles away at the time.
back home we found it needed new front pads, a new nearside cover sill, rear silencer and a new dizzy cap when it developed a misfire. a oil and filter change was done as well.this was all fitted on the day after boxing day! it was MOT'd on the 28th and we were off and running!
I drove it around for 9 months and then it developed a misfire again. I knew little about cars back then and decided to sell as I had acquired the yellow one behind that was taking up room. I only had a garage for one back then. funnily I got offered a price for the yellow one, double what I paid for so sold it.
MJD 523L was sold in august 1991 for £60. I'd covered about 7/8000 miles in it and the clock was showing 59000 I think. it had the remaining months mot still and the first buyer drove it off running on about 6 cylinders. this was the last time I owned a P6 and have always kept an eye on them and promised I'd own one again later on life.
when I checked dvla, it says it is currently on the road, so must have been restored. it can't have been blown up, they must have used another car instead.
more info would be nice as I may be tempted to buy it back.
