lost second gear - automatic transmission

yesterday - suddenly - my second gear disappeared!!!

The gearbox is now changing directly from first to third - if I choose 2 only first gear works - second revs freely.

There are not strange sounds - everything working properly - besides the second gear!

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

sounds like the 1-2 shift valve is sticking!
Does this happen with engine gearbox hot as well as cold?
If gearbox fluid looks and smells o.k. and level is correct there is very little that the owner/driver can do.
Do you have a local auto gearbox expert that you can ask?

Problem solved!!!!

I decided to dismantle the gearbox - after I removed the valve body assembly I discovert the spring and a part of the range control valve at the top of the assembly - I put it back where it belongs - and the second gear reappeard.
