i recently aquired a 67` 2000sc with 51.000mls on the clock,
it leaks like a 150.000 miler, no affence to those who have high milers ;) ,
i have changed the top hats on the rocker cover, even resealed the rocker gasket,
any ideas?
she loses about a litre every 30mls!
excessive is`nt in it.
i thought about the crank seal at the fly wheel end but there is no judder or anything, dont under stand...
oh and how much are wheel bearings, front ones.

Hello Mark,
If there are no external signs of leakage (spots on ground?) then the engine must be burning it. Have you carried out a compression test? It will tell you the situation!
Wheel bearing kits are £15 for front (£28 for rear) inc. seals from J R Wadhams (see link on this site).
Hope this helps.
Regards, John.

thanks,
she is on ebay at the mo`, but if she does`nt go then im happy to keep her.
i have my other car on there so if the other goes first then she stays.
the oil leaks are coming from all over the underneath of the engine, well thats where they end up.

Hello again Mark,
Why not have the engine bay steam cleaned (or Jizer/Gunk then pressure washed) to obtain a dry engine bay so that source of oil leak can be seen?
It sounds like a pretty major leak!
Regards, John.

Check the back of the head near the bulkhead, where it joins the block. On my 2.2 the o-ring seal failed between head and block and I was loosing similar quantities of oil. I fitted a new head gasket and its been fine ever since.

It will be evident as oil running down the back/side of the block, looks a bit like rocker cover leaking but isn't !
