Lower half door skin repair panels

JRW sells a lower doorskin repair panel.
How good are they?
Can I get a good result without lots of distortion and filler?
Do complete door skins exist?
Or should I try and get a good used door (LHS front)?

Cheers,
Philippe

I think there were some supposedly genuine doorskins on e-bay recently, being sold (I think) by Walkers at Chelmsford

I bought a full rear doorskin from Walkers for about 65 pounds. It fitted really well.

The problem with fitting a lower door skin repair section is you will always get some welding distortion, and will probably have to fill at least half of the door to blend the repair in.

Sometimes you will get lucky and find excellent second hand doors cheap. I recently bought a full set of doors, rust free, for a 100 pounds. :)

In Practical Classics book on Welding there's talk of 2 pack adhesive for sticking on wheel arch panels .Wouldn't this be ideal for door skin repairs if you could do the joint under the chrome trim strip ?

Ive not done a P6 but surely tack welding via mig (under where the chrome strip goes would be ideal) would be the way to do it, if you dont want to use the adhesive, and when I say tack welding I mean short tack welds placed all along the door until complete, but only short bursts in different areas, taking plenty time to keep the whole door cool/cold (used to fix 1/2 rear wings to MGB's this way

scauto has hit the nail on the head, that is the correct way to do it, also it will help if there is a "joggled" edge to the panel, this is a very small step in the edge that joins the top half, and allows the new section to slip behid the top section, so when welded it ends up virtually flush and only a small skim of filler is needed.

Try these for size...

... wait I think they are rear door skins? Still, I guess it proves such things exist.
That guy has put up new listings today. Might be worth your while contacting him and asking if he has anything?
