Last word on the matter? You had nothing to add in the first place!
STATISTICAL FACTS (As you call them).
It is also a 'statistical fact' that in the sixties and seventies, the nation as a whole didn’t bring the country to a halt over the price of fuel and didn’t criticise the government for running gas guzzlers.
It is a 'statistical fact' that propane conversions in the seventies and eighties didn’t catch on. Have you ever thought why LPG is so popular these days? (And before you say it's because of the governments promise to cap it, no; gas has always been cheaper than petrol) – now there is a fact.
Exact figures. What? The figures I quoted were what the fitter believed to be nearer the mark. I quote…..
“Long term I couldn’t say how much I will save but the firm that fitted mine said that through experience, unless the car was as brand new, P6 V8's would do nearer to 14mpg around town on petrol. With gas, probably 10mpg”.
The figures YOU quoted were the mpg return YOU got on YOUR car. I quote……
“and the worst consumption I ever got in an auto V8 (by driving "enthusiastically") was 13 mpg - 20 mpg around town and 26 on a long run”.
I’d hardly call either ‘statistical’.
Never in a million years could you get 20mpg out of a V8 P6 around town - Never.
So, before you decide to become the leading expert on LPG, drive one, convert one, whatever, but don’t pick fault out of something you clearly know very little about.
Rude - no. If you read through my posts on the forum you will see that I am far from rude. Due to my points on not only LPG but the Nigerian fraud etc, it's more likely that I am much closer to reality at the moment and more likely to be able to help people. Don’t try to tell people about conversions and become involved in this discussion when you clearly have no knowledge in this area.
The fact is that your 'petty picking' isn’t needed and just isn’t constructive. What does it matter if your car did more or less mpg's than others? What does it matter if you believe petrol has always been expensive and I don’t? So what? I'm keeping a classic on the road at a price that I (and many others) can afford. By expressing my satisfaction in doing such a thing, I might just persuade others to use their cars instead of leaving them to rust somewhere and never be driven again.
I am annoyed at the fact that you are the one to pick fault. You will probably never convert to gas. You notice that p6jpe and rovermorris999 had constructive comments to make. They have genuine interest. That is what the forum is about. Not belittling one another.
If you are so wet behind the ears to think that people would not rise to such comments then you are sadly mistaken. It is unrealistic attitudes such as yours that puts new people off running classics. Don’t be so petty. This is the 21st century -'Come on in'!
Should any genuine LPG converter care to discuss the matter or needs any help, please feel free to email me at
sibley@blueyonder.co.uk. I'm no expert, but I do own and drive a conversion.
Thank you, John Clee.
