Well you can put anything in anything, but will you have a usable well set up stable car at the end of the day, I doubt it, unless you have some god amazing body and suspension set up tools and jigs.

huh?

So test drive end of next week then eh?

Looking good, no hidden suprises I guess?

Nothing too major; thankfully our roads aren't covered in snow and salt so rust is not a huge issue. The car has been stored undercover for it's whole life which also helps.

Not sure about on the road next week

And the roof panel, don't forget the roof panel, did I mention the roof panel? Is that coming off?.

And will you need to open some drain holes for the "A" post cavity at the bottom, I don't know if there is a opening or not already there? Just wondering as I'm doing some rust repair at the front screen post and want to spray some fish oil down there afterwards but haven't checked for any drain points at the base to let any excess drain out??

Good work may I say.

Scott

Ps is yours a NZ assembled car or fully imported, just can't see the characteristic rewelding of the roof to the base too well in the photos, where they cut the roof structure off for export then rewelded in NZ??

Roof is coming off indeed.

To be perfectly honest, although I know the history of the car in terms of ownership; I'm not aware of it's manufacturing origin. I'll get some more detailed pics of the roof up when she comes off.

All series 2 cars that were officially imported came via N.Z, except the 3500S that arrived direct from the U.K. The manufacturing plates that are (were) affixed within the engine bay provide the evidence.

Hi Scott,

Yes indeed, flush with the main body of the base unit, so the welds will be visible at those locations. That is my understanding in terms of where they were cut. Certainly that location would facilitate the most effective separation for the purpose of maximising the quanitity that could be stacked for the available volume per shipment.

Ron.

The cut is a couple of inches above the waistline, My car is in bits and that is where it is on it and I saw another dismantled car last week with them in the same place. another clue is the window glass has NZi stamped on it instead of the Uk manufacture. The welds are pretty obvious, particularly on the rear quarter panel, and I can't seem them in those pics so I suspect it's come direct or at least fully built up.

I've often wondered why rover use quite so much seam sealer, considering all it needs do is cover the seam about 1/2" either side. Your NZ car looks much better than my UK car but still incredibly excessive. I guess it depends on who is working the shift that day.

Nice sound shell though look amazing with a good coat of epoxy.

For some reason my car has also weld marks like these in the A posts, i am not sure about the others... :?

I guess then that you haven't had a look at any modern behind the trimming...

That is a mystery... Perhaps they had it all packed up ready to go and then there was a strike and they couldn't get them from Pressed Metal, so they unpacked it and rebuilt it at home....

So were all the Series 1 (like this one) imported directly or manufatured in NZ?
