Struth , you've rolled ya sleeves up on this , haven't you.
Looks like a well presented workshop you're working out off too.
Thanks for all the updates - great project .
Watching with interest and amazement .

40% Finished, 90% to go

A couple of Dolly's were made today

One for the engine

And the other to make the bare shell easier to move around.

That is an elaborate engine dolly, are there plans to run it on there?

I do like the bodyshell dolly, very clever attachment of the sill jacking points to the frame. Do they just slide in then?

Sure are plans to run it on there mate, thought it would be a great idea to kick it over occasionally and give it a Rev; especially after a few beers. neighbours would love it!

They do just slide in and the weight of the shell is sufficient to keep her all in place. If moving over any serious distance we'd probably just drill and tap a hole so a bolt could be threaded into the Sill mount, but I don't expect to be doing that.

She's going to need a little massaging!

That won't do, although I didn't have much intention of using the standard exhaust manfold anyway it would have been nice if we could have seen her sitting down correctly.

This mongrel could prove bothersome!

Oooh you tease!

Is it just hanging on the ancillaries then, exhaust/alternator etc?

Where's the top-down shots

I'll get some more shots later for you.

This should be easy to get at, once we get the engine sitting down by about 100mm and forward by about the same amount.

Not a lot of room in there, but you won't be swinging too many cats in the P6 bay anyway.

Sure does fill the hole!

1UZ suspended in mid air. Quite probably the front cross member willl need "modification"

Bloody Norah ,you are in feeler gauge territory there .
Are you going to use the standard bonnet - laugh out loud
Awesome work by the way .

Conveniently the original bonnet has a fire sized paint burn in it that will have to be removed as it will never be paintable.

This occured when my younger brother came home into the driveway one day quite distressed telling me about how the engine back fired and caught fire. I know this occured because A: the fuel pressure regulator was on 4 instead of 3 and B: he had trod on the accelerator taking off. At the time it had a foam filter which ignited and caused the sound deadener under the bonnet to get a little warm

This will likely give way to an Alfa GTV6 style power bulge!

You are my new internet hero this week

Looking at that the issues you have are the exhaust manifold downpipe flanges being in the way and the front ancillaries and oil filter hanging down either side where the crossmember sits. If all of those were to be removed would it drop down sufficiently to be hidden under the standard bonnet? The overall height looks very low, so again I'd guess you're target is not to drop the crankshaft pulley right down into the bottom of the crossmember? My idea would be a clever re-arranging of the ancillaries up front, maybe sitting them forwards ahead of the engine if there's enough space maybe on a crankshaft pulley extension and get it done

At this stage we are invetigating modifying or replacing the crossmember, but we'll see once we drop the headers and engine mounts off!

If the Lexus V8 could be made to fit with nothing more than some minor adaptation to mounts etc, no structural stuff, then hopefully more will follow

The promised top down shot

The next shot has the 1UZ exhaust manifolds and engine mounts removed.

the engine can come forward about 50mm, so next task is to move engine forward a little and determine whether Alternator and AC compressor can clear the cross member.

If it can't then there will some massaging to the cross member; which may ensure this is a one off installation for some time

8)

Is it just getting caught on the alternator and aircon compressor then? Would there be enough room to relocate the alternator to higher up beside the engine cam cover in the inner wing?

That looks a bit tight! I'll be honest, I thought there'd be a bit more room around it than that.

When you look at a top down shot of the Rover motor in situ there is not a huge amount of room in there anyway.
