hi all,
just got the cars in from the states. richard ( keynsham ) don't want to upset you  but one of the cars has magstars on, springs are knackered and sits very low, tyres on them are 215 / 60 x 14" and they don't rub on the D post. why is it these cars seem to vary so much on the back end around the D post.

Would love to see some pictures Ian, they are without a doubt my favourite "correct" P6 wheels :D

My Magstars only touch the very bottom corner of the post. As the wheel moves upwards, it also moves inwards due to the arc it follows due to the driveshafts. Once the tyre passes this point, it has clearanc  e. Not sure I explained that too well! If my springs were sagging I would see a clearance.

That seems unlikely, Richard. The drive shafts are angled downwards from the diff, so as the rear of the car sinks towards the ground, the wheels move outwards. That's why good springs are usually a help with clearances in this area. There must be something very odd indeed about the shape of your D post. Is it possible thatas you compress the suspension the critical point of your D post passes below the centre line (horizontally) of the wheel and gains more clearance that way?

Yes, the driveshafts are downwards from the diff. There must be a point at which the wheels are their furthest outwards before they start to move inwards though as they are on a pivoting arm. I have no idea what point this would be mind! My wheels, actually wheel as only one side rubs, only does it on a roundabout with people and luggage for a weekend away in it. And it does just catch on the bottom point of the post once past this, it doesn't rub at all. I could tell this from the underseal that it had removed. Therefore the wheel could not have still been moving outboard at this level of compression otherwise the underseal would have been rubbed off further up the post.

Anyway it's all a bit academic really. I plan to take to that corner with a big hammer and something behind it for support to flatten the end of the post. This will cure the problem. Either that or there will be a set of Magstars on the market soon!
