Manual conversion

Chaps,

I'm thinking about converting my V8 auto to a manual and have seen a few threads on here about this subject. Anyone got a website I can take a peek at for advice or does anyone know how easy/cheap (ha!) it is to do?

Ta in advance

hi Robin H,
ring me on 01302 750747 or 07761 329149, i will be more than willing to tell you what is involved. basically you can use your same prop as it is the right length for the 5 speed manual box. you will need a pedal box, slave and master cylinder and a new spigot bush for the back of the engine and obviously the gearbox clutch and drive plate.
fastening the gearbox up to the original mounts, i find adapting the 5 speed bracket the easiest.

hi again,
also the top of the transmission tunnel ( where the gear lever goes through )will want slightly opening up so you can get reverse. basically a little bit needs cutting out on the left.

Thanks Ian, I'll give you a shout on that.

Incidentally, that was me that emailed you previously about the steering idler, sorry I never got back in touch to order it but I'm flat out busy at work. My father in law ordered it in the end for me, I'm sure he got it from you.

Ta anyway, will speak to you soon, probably after the xmas period though.

Cheers again.

hi,
about right, like i said the auto propshaft is used as it is a direct replacement as the auto box and 5 speed box are the same length, give or take a mm or two. i have done it that way shown in the link and using the proper 'S' set up. i prefer the latter.

I just came across a P6 News article on the subject, dated April 1989. Author was Chris Gregory. It was reprinted in Daniel Young's Rover P6 Anthology (3500).
It's a substantial article, over five A4 pages. Would it be worth updating, with view to resubmission in near future P6 news? Just a thought :)
