During the 1970s there were some classic Australian Police shows. Division 4 and Homicide, both set in Melbourne, and Matlock Police, set in rural Victoria in the fictional town of Matlock. I remember watching all three as a boy.

I have attached a link to a complete episode of Matlock Police, but if you wish to just get a taste of the program, just watch the first 4 mins or so and you'll see a 1967-68 model Ford Falcon XR GT powered by a 225HP 4.7 litre (289cu") V8.

I've also attached just the opening title sequence to Division 4 and part 1 of an episode to Homicide, with the theme and opening credits appearing just after 3 mins. You'll see some classic Australian Holdens, Fords and Valiants in each. There is an episode of Division 4 that features a P6B, but I can't recall the name of episode unfortunately.

Lived in Australia, Adelaide, from 70-72 as a young teenager.

Dad owned a cracking 1963 or 64 Holden EJ sedan.

Pretty sure my petrol head developed during this period with the likes of the Valiant Charger R/T, Falcon XY (esp the GT-HO phase 3 droool!!) and Holden Torana (GTR??) knocking around.

And watching the non metric Bathurst 500 and those cars muscling around. Names like Moffat, Brock and Geoghagen spring to mind.

If I ever win our lottery I'm coming to pinch one of each of the above. I just love that era of Aussie muscle car, especially the Falcon XY and E38 Charger. They were all fantastic looking cars that really captured the imagination.

I would imagine the price of a geniune Phase three is stratospheric now ?

Hi Ron,

The cars that you speak of all certainly had considerable go. Back in the 1970s they were all in the region of 3 to $5000. Compare that to the Rover which would set you back $13,000 in 1978. Those Australian muscle cars are now worth serious money, over $600,000 for the Falcon GTHO Phase 3!
