mcpherson struts on a p6???

I was just fixing a small leek on the exhaust for the MOT later next week and whilst sipping my cupa tea I noticed the slight bulges in the engine bay just where one would expect a mcpherson strut to be mounted. Do you think it's just a coincidence or did Rover consider at some point fitting them in an update?

I've ringed them in this picture of my engine bay. (from a year ago before the engine went back in)

Hi Richard,
The bulges are there to accomodate the steering side arms movement, but i suppose with a bit of imagination and fabrication they could be converted to take McPherson struts,

I suspect the rest of the inner wing isn't strong enough to take the loads, you'd really need to tie it in with the chassis leg at least, and possibly a brace back to the bulkhead.

I do seam to remember during a thread about replacement front shocks that the manufacturer had suggested a conversion to coil-overs, which I guess would give a similar effect. However we never heard any more from them !
