Modern Nightmares

diesel... Had 2 dmfs so far though! It's a 55 plate. He bought it on 120k for just over 3 grand at 3 years old

That sounds about right, they can go from as little as 50k, though mine managed 103k. I've heard of MK4 mondeo's lasting 16K! DMFs are not too bad on the X-type, the thing that scares me the most in high pressure pump and injector failure, which is not cheap. Good diesel and 200ml of 2 stroke oil in the tank at least every 2 fills is the best defence. Even with the issue, they are great value!

Hmmmm, modern cars. I don't care how many miles per gallon they do, you only end up paying what you saved in fuel when they go wrong.

Now I've broken the mondy as well. It started shredding its alternator belt on the way home (I got water on it and it slipped a few days back, seems to have ridden up on the lip of 2 of the pulleys). Being an old Ford though meant that it limped to Halfords for a belt, limped home, and then when I realised most of my tools were in the workshop, it limped there too. Now in a new Volvo, hope that keeps going!
Regards,
Dave
