Are you going to apply an underseal over the epoxy mastic, or is the epoxy mastic stone chip resistant on it's own?

Hi Tom

There's been quite a bit of discussion about what to put over the 121, if anything. Classics Monthly are doing a long term corrosion test on a number of external and internal treatments and after a year this is what they have to say about 121:

So I think I might leave it as is and see how it performs. Regular inspection is the key as always. Anyone who thinks they can do this sort of work then forget it for any length of time is fooling themselves. Nature will always find a way in.

You have no fear Dave, you just get stuck in and have a go.

Hi Brian

If it's got to be done it's got to be done and it's got to be done properly. I think I said earlier that it's amazing what you can achieve with a ball pein hammer and a block of wood, because that's all I used.

Yes I was happy with the repair panels I bought. They needed the usual slight fettling but nothing major. The key panel was the one that connects the splash panel to the base unit as that determines the line of the wheel arch rim. You'll see from earlier pictures that before that panel turned up I had put a panel into the boot shelf. This had to be cut out again as it had pulled the wheel arch rim in too close. I'll know better for the other side now (but that's a job for later in the year).

I think you should get yourself down the pub for a few celebratory quaffs...sans Rover of course! :)

Great work you've done there mate.

Nice job Dave! i have a question for you: Where can you buy repair panels or is it made in order of you?

Ian at rover classics has some alternatively jrwadhams do some according to their website.

Thanks Guys

No matter how much work you do there's always that little voice that says the car will fail on something. So it's good to get it through with no advisories. Kinda bizarre really because I did have one advisory last year for handbrake performance and I haven't touched the rear brakes at all  . Oh well, I'm not complaining.

Hans

The repair panels I bought were from JR Wadhams. I only bought these to save the time in making them and they are pretty good panels. I like to have a go and see what sort of complex shapes it's possible to make from scratch. Sometimes it's easier to make small replacement panels than try to make a single large, more complex one.

I'm mildly jealous :) Got a few hours in this afternoon with the new welder... No wind like last weekend so much more useful... One day i'll get a nice lit garage and it'll all be sorted :)

Hi Dave,

Great repair work! I have nealry finished the same repair work on both sides on my car, Originally started as suspension strip down/paint & poly rebush but once the rear wings were off then the tin worm was apparent!, nearly there, metal primar then stone chip & then finally start on all the suspension parts! MOT after too, it ran out last August, car has been on blocks since November only on the two weeks after top end rebuild! Still its all worth it!

Keep up the great work!

Hi Damian

Yes I was watching your thread and thinking it looked familiar. I suspect the other side needs doing too but I want to enjoy driving the car for a bit and have some other mechanical stuff to sort out too. I really must start a project thread

At least now you have the MOT you can do it a bit at a time when it's convenient :)
