My 2000TC

I've had this car now for coming up to a year, but im hoping to make a start on it very soon now.

I know that one or two members went to see it when it was up for sale in Romford last July time, but here it is.
It is a LOT less dusty than this now. Looks so far to be quite sound, i'm hoping that underneath it isnt like a colony of moths have been chewing. With any luck it'll prove to be a snip at £150. I'll get it running then do something about the (IMO) awful colour scheme its undergone at some point in life!

The other car is my ultra reliable Rover 25

That looks like a good project, and a great price too. I agree with you on the colour scheme, what are you going for instead?

How about a chunky beige cardigan? Get practicing those over the bonnet sliding car entries :)

Not sure what colour to go for really. First off, its getting it working again. Hopefully i can set to work soon. I wanna hear it live before i think about colours and what not!

With regards to the cardigan, thats a stop gap plan until i have worked out what colour i want lol.

I gotta confess to my total novice status, so if anyone local wants to come have a look over it, it'd be greatly appreciated
Only one way to learn isnt there!

I'm also after a 200 BRM at the moment, so this may be on the backburner for a bit, but then maybe not!

Okay, i wanna start work on it a little.

Problem is i am not massively sure where to start and what not. Would anyone local and more knowledgeable be willing to come down and have a bit of a look at it? Give me a few pointers and what not?

Give it a wash and T Cut and if the white paint comes up ok , just repaint the bits which are red . Nothing wrong with a white P6

Fully clean it in and out, new oil/filt,flush water system, new plugs, get it started and driving,"at least moving under its own power!",get brakes working, all electrics working.
Basically get it fully operational, and as you go through it,,make notes of faults, wear and rust you find, bits you need, jobs that need doing!
Then once you have assesed it, you can work out what you can do and what you cant, find out what it will cost for parts and to have any work done you cant do.
if you havent been scared off by then,it cant be too bad!
Good playing,, enjoy!!

Awesome fellows, cheers!

I'll take heed of this and get started ASAP with it. Cant wait to hear it for the first time if im honest!

What battery will it require by the way? I went to Halford's the other night because i know they have a guide thing on the shelf whch lists makes and models and what batteries they use, and whilst they had many old cars (Triumphs, older MG's etc) nothing for the P6 was listed.

I know there is an issue with the carbs, i think it needs a new gasket as the fuel is leaking out of one of them - where could i get a new set, what sort of price am i looking at, and is it a big job?

Thanks again for your help!

Ian

When you do find out what battery it is meant to have, when you visit the motor factors ask them what others they have that will fit. I got a slightly different one for the v8 than recommended with higher cranking power etc for less money and fits in the same hole...

Assuming it's a boot mounted battery, I just took the battery box to my local auto-electrical supplier and they offered up various batteries to get the biggest that would fit. Also a heck of a lot cheaper than Halfords.

I do that now. Different makes have different casing sizings not allowing them into the box even though they are the same part number  Best to be safe

just for reference i put on a halfords battery on my 3.5 hcb072 is their number , halfords can look up the model on their computer it was expensive at around 120 euros , maybe we can start a thread about which batteries to buy , if your car has been standing a couple of years the fuel may need to be drained and fresh stuff put in , good luck , rich

Oh yeah i know, theres still fuel in there......from 1999 lol. I dont wanna get rid of it as its leaded and smells awesome hahaha.

Seriously though, i wouldnt be buying the battery from Halfords, i just wanted to be cheeky and have a look see if they could tell me what i needed

Was having a bit of a look on ebay last night for spark plugs - would series 1 sparks suit mine? I know it isnt a series 1, but even so.

Did you find the car locally?

The colour scheme appears rather odd, I wonder what the painter was thinking of :?

I think he'd spent a bit too long on the sauce tbh, i'm sure at some stage after ive got it running i'll be having that taken care of, important thing for me is getting it back on the road. In any event, its different, i could just keep it ugly lol
