My P6 convertible project - time for some pics

Some of you may remember the sale of a magenta purple P6 on ebay a few years ago. There were a couple of posts about it at the time. I bought the car and have been working hard on it since. It was in pretty good condition all in all but looked dreadful with a bad taste boy racer theme (IMHO!). I had a good idea how I wanted it to look - pretty much the opposite of how it was! I wanted it to be very understated and pure, more so than the early S1 cars. The pictures at the link below show how it looks now, obviously with a bit more work still to be done. I hope to get some use from it this summer. Its been a labour of love but was entirely stripped bar the dash top and wiring. I've painted it myself and it really is a nut and bolt rebuild/restoration, all done myself but still costing a fortune in parts! I restored 3 V8s before this one and a 2000TC so know the cars pretty well. I will make sure that the interior is finished to as high a standard as if it's poorly done it could look like a dreadful lash up! As for a hood, it hasn't got one - yet! I've seen a few P6 convertibles on Google, some of which are spoilt by their hoods. I will get a bit of use from it without a roof (if we actually get a dry day!) and look into having a bespoke hood made. Let me know what you think of it.

You've made an absolutely outstanding job of the transformation thus far! The detail is fantastic, and I reckon the earlier look will suit the car so much better! Unusual hubcaps, what are they from? Can't wait to see the finished article. When was the conversion done originally?

That looks cracking under there, well done.

Fantastic work, lots of TLC and time spent well, hoping to see it out and about soon :D

Thanks for your positive comments. Frazzletc they're baby moons. Pretty standard fayre in some 1950s modified resto cars. Because of the modified shape of the rear arches (made to fit the boy racer wheels), standard 14 inch p6 wheels looked lost so it's on a set of p5 15 inch wheels, with 1 inch spacers on the back. I tried a set of p4 hubcaps but they just looked wrong. As for the conversion I have no idea although rudiger has a pic of the car on his site. This has a crease down the middle as if it's scanned from a magazine, but no idea which one or when. The conversion is very well done. Theres no dreaded scuttle shake at all and the sills have whats best described as girders in them! Previous owner told me it has strengthening in the screen surround too.

Ohhh very nice indeed.

Look forward to seeing it out and about at some shows perhaps :)

I've often wondered what P5 steel wheels would look like on a P6 - could be another good way of getting better tyre choices than with 14's.

P5 rims are very narrow which would limit tyre choice.
