my personal new project...

It should stay a yearly test. If you can't afford to keep your car in a safe & roadworthy condition, then you should re-evaluate your priorities.
I suppose there is an argument that new cars should need less maintenance than classics, but on balance, owners of them seem to place far too much credence on the fact that they are new cars, so don't need anything doing to them.

And if someone paid £10K for an MG in that condition, then he deserved everything he got.

Adam, you sound like you're enjoying getting to know your car and working round all the little problems a bit at a time. I like the physics based name too!

Have you sorted the head lights yet? When I put the front end of my car back together last month it took nearly two days to get the lights working and in the end it came down to faulty connectors and poor earths even though I'd cleaned them up beforehand. Some of the earth wires from the lights are connected together via a double bullet connector which may or may not be providing a good connection inside. The other thing that knobbled me was a blown bulb even though they were working fine before I took it to bits at Christmas.
