My Rover 2000 automatic

1967 Rover 2000SC automatic , Series one, for sale, as a result of changed circumstances. It’s my first car, and I have owned it for nearly a year, and in that time I have spent a considerable amount of money on this lovely car. It is yellow, with black flatpleat leather seats. It has three speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. The car is tax exempt, obviously, and it's MOT'd until May 2012. It’s even had a very brief moment of fame, having been featured on BBC’s Crimewatch solved, very briefly in a reconstruction. There’s a lot I’ve missed, so any questions are welcome.
Bodywork:
The bodywork is painted in a non-standard shade of yellow, thanks to a previous owner. The paint finish isn’t amazing, but it looks quite acceptable. There don’t appear to be any horrors lurking underneath the exterior paint, as a quick run over the car with a magnet shows. There are a couple of small areas of localised corrosion, which don’t detract from the overall look of the car, but should perhaps be attended to in due course. These are on the front valance, on the driver’s side, and on the passenger-side rear wing, under the C-pillar. There are two small dents in the passenger-side sill cover.
The car has stainless steel sidestrips as fitted to series 2 cars, and also has vinyl C-pillar covers too.
The rear bumper is very good indeed, with only a few slight marks, but importantly, it’s completely straight, unlike the bumpers fitted to so many P6s. The front bumper is slightly pitted, and has a badge bar fitted, complete with an AA badge, and a P6ROC badge. These will be included in the sale.
A new driver’s door mirror was fitted recently. All 4 hubcaps are present, and in nice condition. . The car has the desirable bootmount spare wheel kit. Under the bonnet has not been painted, so everything is clear to see.
Interior:
I have fitted a very nice set of black leather seats, in the same pattern as the car would originally have had, but the front seats have indents to accommodate the inertia reel seatbelts, fitted by a previous owner. There are ET headrests on the front seats, which adjust in the way they should. The headlining is in nice condition, and there is a new interior light cover, and new bulb, both fitted since I bought the car.
The carpet mats are a slightly different colour to the rest of the carpets, but are in nice condition. There is a rev counter pod fitted. The top of the dashboard is cracked unfortunately, but I’m sure that a smart repairer could rectify it.
The previous owner has fitted a couple of ancillary gauges to the speaker grille above the centre console. A new gear selector surround was fitted a couple of months ago. The rear centre armrest has split, and could do with replacement. I shall include a couple of spare knee bins, a pile of furflex, and other bits and pieces of interior trim, with the sale.
Mechanical:
The car’s had enormous amounts of work done. When the car arrived, it was fitted with a refurbished rear brake calliper along with new rear brake pads, and a new gaiter was fitted to the De Dion tube, as the previous one had split. It’s had a full exhaust system fitted, comprising of a brand new front pipe, a new resonance chamber, a secondhand mid-section and a stainless steel back box which cleans up very nicely.
Shortly after I got the car, it blew a headgasket in traffic. So, on inspection, it required rather a lot of work. This work consisted of fitting a new cylinderhead, from a low mileage 2000SC, new valves, a new timing chain tensioner, new sideplates, and all of the waterways in the engine were cleaned at the same time. I also had the radiator recored to a very high standard at the same time. Ever since then there have been no issues with overheating. I run the car on standard unleaded petrol, with Castrol valvemaster additive.
Shortly after that work was carried out, I decided to have the carburettor rebuilt, and this has vastly improved the car’s running, and the economy, which was a great relief.
A new brake light switch was fitted a couple of months ago, as was a new oil pressure switch. A new angle drive has been fitted to the speedo, after the previous one failed, resulting in a non-functional speedometer for a few days. The speedo cable has also been replaced because it failed about a week after the new angle-drive was put in.
There have been two new wiper spindles fitted, and the wipers are relatively new.
Two new universal joints were fitted to the passenger side halfshaft, at both ends, a few weeks ago, after they became very noisy. The other side was checked at the time, and it was found to be absolutely fine. The front brake pads were recently replaced. The front brake hoses were replaced a couple of weeks ago. There is no underseal pasted over the car to cover up any horrors. The rear wheel arches have both had work done. The passenger side had been done when I got the car, but the driver’s side was done about two months ago. There was a small hole, which was cut out, and on closer examination, it transpired that the inner D post had rotted out, so a new one was fabricated, and welded in, and then the arch repair was carried out. The garage have put a coat of underseal on it to protect it for the future.
Four new Firestone tyres were fitted about 3 months ago, as the tyres that the car arrived with were in a very poor state.
Driving:
The car drives very well. The engine sounds very pleasant, and pulls well, though you could never accuse this of being a fast car. It will happily cruise at modern speeds though, and is very happy in modern traffic. It’s brilliant for Sunday runs along country roads too.
The brakes are excellent, and the car pulls up absolutely straight. There’s no power steering, with this being a 2000.
Overall:
This is a lovely example of a relatively rare Rover 2000 automatic. I’d really like the car to go to a good home. The car can be viewed 3 miles from Castle Douglas, in Dumfries and Galloway. If you phone in advance, the car can be viewed any day, as long as you let me know a day or two in advance. Please call 07785235049 for further information.
I am after £2250 but I'm very open to offers.
The photos are all in my blog, and you can read about everything there.

Oh dear....sorry to hear this, changing circumstances seem to relieve a lot of people of their cars.

I'm thinking of downsizing the fleet too having lost some of my storage. Which ones go? They all need work before I could ask a half decent price for any of them.

Hope you find a buyer, you should do as it's a much admired car.

What's a blog , and how would you go about reading it ? Always sad to have to part with a car , good luck .
