My TR6 broke!!!

Hi all.
I have to report that my TR6 broke on monday!!
Decided to use it to go to work as it was a nice day!! 8)
I got there only to spot the n/s wheel at a VERY alarming angle!!
The nsf rear lower wishbone arm mount on the chassis has totally sheared off!! :(
Damned lucky it was the rear one and as such the wheel didnt fold up under the car causing massive damage,as I wasn't hanging about on the way to work!
If it had of been the front that broke one it would of folded up under the car and I would of ended up in a ditch and probably be in hospital!!
Garage is now on hold till I sort it out,as I cannot move the car till its fixed anyway!!
Will have to check all 4 lower wishbone mounting brackets,as it is a known weak point prone to age related stress fractures!!

Regards a very shaken, but still smiling,, :D :D Dave

You've been lucky there, I had a rear trailing arm snap on my Firenza about 15 years ago which spat me upside down into some trees  not pleasant I tell you

I always think things know when you've got a lot on, and their little foibles will cause maximum aggravation. Lets hope your P6 isnt psychic as well... Glad to hear your OK.

Chris

Not nice when something unexpected breaks in your steering!

Luckily, the driver (my daughter) managed to climb out of the back window.

It's a birthday present for it!
Built 39yrs ago in April 70! :)
It will LOVE it!!
All that POSING it can do to the ladies outside tesco's!!

Give her a BIG!!! comfort hug from me!!! :)
I was VERY lucky not to end up the same, but in a soft top it would of been nasty!!
Been parked upside down in a Mini after I managed to roll it 6 times on ice when I was a young driver!!
Only injury was a bump on the head,as we both fell onto the roof when we undid our belts!!

Is that a Fiat Cinquecento on it's roof ? What broke ?

I think it's a Seat, or at least it was.

She lost control of it in Dorset, about 230 miles from here so I haven't been able to have a look at it. So, I don't know what broke but from the direction of the wheels, I have to assume something did.

Morning all.
Well ive managed to fix the sheared off lower wishbone mount over the weekend!
I had to fabricate and fit some 4mm reinforcing to the mount once I had reattached it!!
Was looking about for some good strong steel, and found that the new garage door angle iron supports were perfect,so I trimmed 4" off each for the job!
The mount went perfectly back in place, and I tack welded it into position before stitch welding it back on,then shaping and fitting the reinforcing brackets!
Good old fashioned west country saying "PROPER JOB!!"
You could hang the QE2 off it now!
Heres a link to a selection of pics!!

Still trying to get better pics with my digi camera!! :|

Hi Dave

This mount did give me cause for concern when I bought the car,as the reinforcing put on in the mid 80's,wasnt attached well,if at all.
3 are well done and one was very poor! Maybe done by the apprentice!!
It showed no sign of failing, and I should of done it when I had the eng/box out during its repaint!! DOH!!!
Anyway the other 3 are rock solid and well reinforced, although I will add some extra this winter when I pop the eng/box out,as I cant get to the front ones with it in!
I am considering taking the body off the chassis this winter when ive got the garage built,to give the chassis, running gear a real good going over!!

Dave
