NEED A CHEAP SD1 FIVE SPEED BOX

Strange that Pete, nobody seams to have one !

Not much chance of me getting one either then......

Richard :)

;)

Hve you tried Colin at Faringdon or Jim at Red Hot...They both have so many old Rover P6s laid about.

Problem is they want about £175 to £200 for a second hand box.

I do not have that kind of cash at the moment

The V8 is broken.....

Someone help me PLEASE!!!!!

Pete,
Wouldn't it be easier, and quicker, to replace the BW35 for now and do the conversion when your finances are improved?
Might be easier to get, and no extra bits, like clutch, pedals and master cylinders, to fit. Regards, John.

Owning a SD1 I know a guy who probably has a box or two.

Problem is he lives in the west of scotland. good news is he regularly goes up and down to london/midlands.

I would be happy to give you his number if you drop me an email.

A BIG Thank-You to John Johnson !!

John has managed to locate an SD1 Vitesse 5 speed box for me complete with bell housing. Hopefully it should arrive in a few days and then the fun can start converting the Editorial V8 to five speed manual.
I have all the other bits I need for the conversion (P6 pedal box, flywheel and clutch etc) so hopefully it should be pretty straight forward.

John I owe you far more than a pint and twenty Regal!
You are a life saver!
Thanks.

Dear Pete
How did you get on converting your automatic to a 5 speed?
I am contemplating the same conversion and have located a LT77 SD1 gearbox. Do you have the complete list of necessary items and the donor cars from whence they came to finish the job? The gearbox I have is from a 2600 SD1 so I doubt it would be compatible with the Rover V8 wrt bellhousing. Can the 4 speed bell housing from a 3500S be used ? ( I happen to have one in the shed).
thanks
Richard

Anyone considered or have experience of using the toyota supra 5 speed. I'm just about to carry out this conversion using a bellhousing kit from http://www.classicconversions.co.uk/roverv8.htm

It's going into 3500S so space may be a problem.

These gearboxes are supposed to be excellent with 3 bearings on lay and mainshaft and an excellent gearchange. Available secondhand for about £100 but you may have to buy a whole car. Mine was free as I found a toyota supra in a hedge at the bottom of a friends industrial estate!

Any advice appreciated.

Dear BB
Triumph Rover spares in Lonsdale, South Australia sell the five speed supra conversion kit and their website describes it.
Richard

Toyota box conversion sounds very interesting, although £550+VAT for the kit is a bit steep. Last bellhouseing like this I bought was a special to fit ford 5 speed to Vauxhall 2ltr 16v, cost about £130.

Peter is having a slight problem with the manual conversion, in that the series 1 V8 doesn't have the fixings for the manual clutch pedal box.

I haven't spoken to him since so I don't know if he's had any ideas yet.

Richard :D

£550 is expensive but you get a bit more than just the Bellhousing. Includes friction plate, release are and slave cylinder. If you take into account the easy availability of the gearboxs and the fact that they shouldn't need rebuilding due to a more robust construction it makes sense.

Have to see if it all works out though before I get to over excited.

You can see pictures of my restoration project at http://www.geocities.com/bblongman/index.html

I'll check out the australian website. Thanks
