Hello all,

Longtime lurker but thought best to join and start posting as I now have the required funds & parking space to make the purchase! Having started with a Ford Capri and a Mercedes 190 that were enjoyable to work on; the latest Ford-era Jaguar just doesn't interest me when I open the bonnet. Time to get a proper car without an ECU.

My criteria read like most on this board it seems:

P6 in good structural condition.
V8
1972 or earlier preferred
Non-pastel colour, although for the right price anything considered.
Manual

Plus, I have an entirely unorginal plan for a 5 speed box, engine tweaks etc.

I am hoping t locate one within 2 months so I can compete in some of the spring hillclimb events.

Oh and I am located in London, having bravely carved a parking space over the past 6 months.

Many retrospective thanks to board members for all your advice-by-proxy; plenty learnt and hopefully much more to go!

Regards,

Spinakerr

Welcome and good luck with your obviously sensable decision to buy a real car.

Welcome :)

If you plan to go 5 speed, an Auto tunnel is bigger to start with to make life easier

True, but the manual tunnel gives you more space inside. The passenger leg room is quite restrictive.

I'm never the passenger and always the mechanic

I'm never the passenger either, but with the added hassle of the badly fitting, scrunched up carpet I used to get earache in the left ear for some reason

:D

Good luck with your hunt !

At my side of the Channel it's getting very difficult to find anything decent at a reasonable price. Been looking for more than half a year now myself. As there's more of them about at your side, you should be in luck relatively soon :)

Mr Q, is the tunnel size that different , I thought the noticeable difference inside the car would be negligible

Mr HD :D

Yep, this is the amount of carpet I had to cut off to get them to fit.

That's the difference on the passenger side of the vehicle.
