Ok old rear caliper wasn't working so off to wins and got a replacement . This has been put in but this caliper isn't working.. Has been bled several times etc. Anyone got a step by step of how this should of been done
Chances are he doesn't know what he's doing then. They need to be adjusted up manually using the handbrake lever before the handbrake cable is fitted until the pads are close to the disc. If not there isn't enough travel on the hand or foot brake to bring the pads into contact with the disc.
If you're paying someone to do it they should know all that, they shouldn't be using the money you're paying them to learn on the job.
Problem solved his 30 years of experience helped. The caliper had been knocked in transit and something moved inside the caliper which is now sorted and been put back now on car phew!
I was going for the subtle jab, that the mechanic wasn't familiar and pulled the handbrake lever out of the caliber to install the pivot pin cap. Then it became an "in transit" failure when he figured out the error.
Of course, I could be entirely wrong. Hence the weak attempt at a subtle delivery.
Quite why the lever would need to be removed to fit the cap is another matter. Maybe trying to fit an early cap behind a later lever. All that said I doubt it as it was totally fitted and bled before the problem was noticed.
I suspect harvey's first premis might be correct, he didn't adjust it up then when he tested the car it adjusted itself almost up, then he pulled it to bits, put it back in and it was already almost there so the next test drive it came good....
heh heh. Everyone has beat me to it on this one.. Chances are the guy doesn't know what he's doing, and P6 rear calipers and the associated linkage isn't something that a lot of people are aware of.
