Thanks for the input. I knew that this job was going to be tricky and needing some experience. This is why in the end I actually asked Nick and Duncan from D&G to install it. It looks like they did a great job and I trust they are aware that the manifold is not allowed to be put under stress.
 
Willy, I'm impressed that you managed to weld up that exhaust manifold. I would worry that going anywhere near an old exhaust manifold with a MIG would end up blowing holes everywhere. Well done.

Oh, and good result martinblum007 - glad that it worked out.
 
Oh that manifold wasn't at all bad, just very clean cracks but no corrosion. The only fiddly aspect to the welding was getting into the gap where the two sections cross over. I went a bit OTT, going over all the joins whether there was a visible crack or not.
