New V8 auto project.

Al,

The 081 801 3128 number will either be +44 207 801 3128 or +44 208 801 3128
Same applies to the 071 number.. will either be +44 207 or +44 208...

I wonder if the DVLA can do a search based on the chassis number rather than a reg number?

I don't recall Sutton ever having a 801 telephone number and I was born and dragged up there
It would have been 642 , 643 or 644

Hey All

Attached another photo of rusty Rover ,P5 in background is past use by date also.

Hmmm, it doesn't look too bad in that picture. :) The P5 does have a set of Rostyles on it but not much else useful. Wasn't there another P6B as part of the deal?

New car is still going well. I've been on a couple of moderate runs with it so far. One thing that has become apparent is that I really need to get the AC regassed! The AC doesn't have a fresh air intake, it gets it's air from behind the driver's glovebox. The problem is that on a moderate drive on a warm day, the heater is sucking in air that is warmed by the sun and the trans tunnel and the car just gets progressively warmer!
And I discovered that neither of the front quarterlights work so I guess i'll have to change the gearboxes.
Also the speedo wavers quite a bit. Tighten the gearbox flange? Any other possible culprits?

I fitted an alarm on Friday too so I have a bit of piece of mind, also managed to get hold of my insurance company who eventually confirmed that they had received my email and the car was covered. They just hadn't (and still haven't) bothered to send me any kind of confirmation/price/paperwork or anything. Sheesh, what do these people do all day???

I had a big reshuffle of the driveway the other day. Rearranging the carport to house the red TC and arden SC auto and put the 'S' under a cover on the drive.
It occurred to me after that in the space of half an hour, I had driven a 2000 auto, 2000TC manual, V8 auto and V8 manual! :D The worlds shortest comparison test!

That doesn't sound right re the air con. Have you got the hardback drivers instruction manual that covers it? There is a comprehensive description of how everything is supposed to work in there. I can scan and email if you don't.

Chris

I do have the NADA owner's handbook and a UK spec AC brochure that covers the operation too. I'm sure its fine. It's just that the heater is sucking in air from the warmest part of the interior. Everything should be fine when I actually get it regassed i'm sure. Can't really make any wild assumptions 'til then.

Not much progress of late. I finally got around to fixing the interior light though. It turns out the wiring that goes up through the rf pillar had shorted out at some point and melted the rubber sleeve to the body. Still, it was quite easy to cut a bit off and reconnect it and I rerouted the wiring down the side of the pillar, covered by the black trim. I also replaced the RR outer pillar which had a few blisters under the vinyl. I had a good look around under the roof and back seats to see if I could find a build sheet but nothing. :(
The boss handed me a cash bonus of $500 the other day for all my hard work over summer. :D So the beast will be off to the panelbeaters very shortly to get a few bits tidied up. I will certainly be getting the rusty bits in the doors sorted and the chipped paint on the lf wing, and if I can afford it, the bonnet and bootlid will need respraying due to some small patches of corrosion lifting the paint. We shall see. But once that's done, se will truly be something to be proud of!

Hello Kiwirover -I live in your neck of the woods
I was interested in your latest addition as I have a similar car
My 72v8 rover also has a/c plus a few other bits and bobs when I ordered her from the factory [yes Im that old]
To cut to the chase .GZ16677 has been off the road for 2 years after an altercation with my farm gate and a manuka .
Do you know a good classic car body shop in west auckland that I can entrust with a good job -she needs drivers door alignment and a panel repair and paint rematch
Am keen to get her back on the road before other parts start deteriorating through lack of use

Hi Gerald, I believe I met you a while back. Sold you a door and wing after you little mishap. Weren't you on this forum under the name 'Mudpig'?
Golden Gun in New Lynn have a reputation for being very good and do deal with a lot of exotics. I got them to respray the bootlid on my TC after it was stolen, but then, I wasn't paying!
It all depends on what you want to spend and whether you can do any of it yourself. I am fortunate that my next door neighbour happens to be a fairly decent panelbeater and I will be entrusting him with the rust work on this car but I will most likely be doing all the dismantling and reassembling myself and paying cash.
I might give you a ring a bit later. I'd love to have a good look at your car and compare notes against my new one.
Cheers, Al...

Hello Al
thanks for that info
Scratching around in my shed Ive found an 8track cassette Left over from the days I had the latest techno stereo fitted in the rover !!!!!
I see yours has an 8 track
You are welcome to it -cant tell you whats on it -I recorded it myself and the label has fallen off .Probably Led Zep or Neil Diamond -Oh dear Lord-About 60mins of music though
I had an 8track recorder in the home in those days and used to put my favourite tunes on the unit for the car .
the mining town I lived in Western Australia couldnt pick up radio let alone FM ,so to look cool when cruising around the town I had the windows down and the 8 track pumpin
The car still looks cool -shame the driver couldnt keep up the image
regards Gerald

Thanks for the offer Gerald but I did buy a couple of tapes off Ebay. Jethro Tull and The Who. :D Unfortunately the tape deck is dead so it will need a bit of surgery and an ipod input installed.
The V8 has been retired at present as I remove panels to give to the panelbeater. He has the front doors at the moment and I managed to remove a large chunk of flesh from my left index finger while removing them. :x
Oh well, first blood! All part of the fun!
I'm back driving the red TC again and still loving it. I was worried I wouldn't because I was enjoying the V8 so much, but the TC has her own charms. Miss that power steering though...

Finally got the beasty back from the painter last night. :D I haven't had much chance to play with her yet as the weather has been a bit crap of late. I just need to start putting everything back on the car basically but the front doors have to come off to have the rubber seals rivetted back on and I will take the opportunity to improve the side trims and fixtures where possible. I also scored some mint rear mudflaps and a set of very appropriate number plates so they will be fitted too. Pics will be posted as progress is made.

How appropriate? I still have P62OOO on retention.. figured it looked better than P62000..

Pretty appropriate! I think it says it all really. :D

that came from thre chap selling his Partial restored V8 mota on TM if memory serves me correct

Oooh, really nice... My first RSA P6B was exactly like it only a year newer. Memories...

Well, it's taken a while but she is all back together and on the road again. Actually i've been driving her for a week or so but thanks to a speedily delivered (and very reasonably priced) parcel from Ian, I have managed to re-attach all the bits that needed re-attaching which means that I can be proud of her at last.
A fair bit of paint got done in the end. Three of the doors had rust bubbles on the lower skins, the front wings had one tiny bubble each (and I got rid of those non-original wing mirrors) and the bonnet and bootlid both had corrosion lifting the paint around the edges so all the rust was cut out and welded and all those panels were resprayed.
After all the reassembly I refitted my mint Lucas square 8s, fitted the NOS boot badge insert that I had sitting around, fitted some very tidy rear mudflaps that I scored on Trade me a few weeks ago and the new number plates. She is pretty close to how I want her now. I may fit the electric windows that I have at some point and I am still looking at the sunroof idea. I will attempt to recolour a pair of ETs to suit but thats about it. I have temporarily fitted a CD player to keep me entertained while I try to get the 8 track repaired but she is a joy to drive.
I guess the next task is to pull finger and get the left hand drive car on the road now! :D The fun never stops!

Nice!! did not see those mud flaps on TM :( or I might have been fitting them instaed , mine are quite tacky and some missing make the whole car a little poorer. Love the glass too.
