new vac advance! where have you been all my life?

Well just fitted a new vacuum advance unit, been meaning too for ages now, fuel economy was awful.
And man! she started SO much easier, hardly needed any choke and seems to be running sweetly again.
I had always thought they didn't have much to do with poor running, but it seems to make all the difference.
The idle speed is a little high now.
i did fit a new fuel filter at the same time, so that is probably helping too.

Ignitor and flamethrower arrived this week, so there are next in line!

Yes indeed, the vacuum advance makes a major contribution to reducing fuel consumption. If at any time you see fuel consumption increasing again, to test the module just lift the distributor cap when the engine is off, pull off the vacuum line from the module and using a suitable piece of plastic hose suck hard and see if you can move the advance plate. You will be surprised at how little it moves given how much suction you need to generate.
