New Year...and New Quandary

Well...what's a guy to do....

Having shelved Rebekah for a month or three whilst I do the patio, get Christmas out of the way, and get electrics into the garage, along comes a new perplexity.

Got a call from a chap in Leicestershire re his stalled 1973 3500 resto...too little time (and cash) to do justice to the car given life in general and his '88 Audi Quattro project eating it all up. So much so he'd reached the stage of (heavens forbid) breaking it and sending the base unit to the crusher...unless I wanted to save it. I'd been to look at the car earlier this year but went for Rebekah instead as I really fancied an earlyish Series 1.

He'd bought the car in 1994, drove it for a year, then took it off the road for a full restoration. Moved house with it twice and spent a lot of money & time...all rust on the base unit cut out and new repair panels let in + Dinitrol, engine bay bare-metalled and resprayed, crank regrind & shells, new cam & followers, uprated oil pump, professional autobox recon, recon servo, new brake pipes, etc, etc...

The car's far too good to break, not least for the fact it's a rarity with a factory-fitted electric steel sunroof! 3 wings need spraying and the rest of the paint needs a bit of tlc. Carpets, shin bins & centre console need refitting.Everything's there...just needs putting back together.

Scans of some of his snaps...

So I've shelled out to give it at least a temporary home. At the moment it's at my factory (as I've run out of space at home) whilst I decide whether to push on with Rebekah, or spend more time on this.

Engine bay's all done, and looks good...

So...and this post could equally be in the Selling section...if anyone fancies finishing her off and making my decision easier, £500 or so will do the trick.

If not, Rebekah may have to wait a while longer. (Which would give Phil Robson a clear run! )

Cheers,

Now if I had £500 and some space I'd snap your hand off! Looks like a job that's been done properly too!

Rich.

Ahh, man that is so frustrating.
I would rip your arm off to get at that, but to get it to Cape Town is nigh on impossible with the new Customs regs. I had to apply for a permit just to import a used manifold, so a whole car is a non-starter notwithstanding the money to get it there......

I hope someone gives her a good home and lots of TLC.

Thanks for all the comments guys,

It's the age-old problem - so many cars, so little time & space!

She really is a rock-solid car and I've had interest from a couple of forum members but nothing concrete yet. Don't really want to put it on ebay as I could see it being broken.

Felt guilty this morning so I was out in the garage at 7.30 fettling some of Rebekah's rear end bits. :D

PS - do like the look of that Audi Quattro quattro!

Onward and upward!
