HELP i have baffling problem with ns indicator not working -12v coming to bulb and good earth provided bulb will not work changed bulbs many times -tried soldering wire to bulb to new earth then taking feed cable out and wiring direct to bulb no joy the odd thing is that power is there o and pulsating on meter but will not operate any bulb i try i stress that power is there and earth is good -andy

Andy,
How do you know that you have 12V at the bulb?
I suspect you are using a multimeter.

This is showing a potential difference of 12V, however, due to high resistance, when you attach a bulb, there is not enough current to light it.

Try running a wire another earth point, and using the power to the bulb. Now does it light? if so its a bad earth.

If not try using 12V from another source, now it should light, proving there is high resistance ( bad connection) somewhere in the feed.

Jim.

have tried eathing to known good earth but will test live feed again as stated when indicator on multimeter fluctuates between 11.9 and 11.7-but as earths are all good will double check live -just to add i am putting back together after wing removal and waxoiling would bullet connector be affected as was covered in waxoil when recconected--many thanks andy

I guarantee it's a wiring snag. I had a sidelight go out a while ago and when I checked it with a multimeter it registered 12V with power on, but the lamp would not illuminate. Turned out to be the supply to the sidelight and the 12V I was getting was coming via the other sidelight.

Corrosion in the bulb socket ?? Try a little scraping or cleaner while it is not energised, then try the bulb in there again.

I had a recalcitrant front light unit in my Oxford once which was temporarily cured by clipping a jump lead from the grille (where the light is mounted) to a bracket bolted to the body of the car. When I say temporary, I mean it stayed there until the car was finally restored a couple of years later.

sorted been away for a couple of days and just been out to garage -as stated all earths were perfect but cleaned connecter in engine bay it was covered in waxoil --and allthough it did show 12 v there must have been some resistance with oiled connexion -anyway many thanks -andy
