original car radio

Amstrad as well as Sharp were making stereo radio cassettes in the 70's but you'd hardly want an Amstrad in your car even if it was reasonably period
The Sharps weren't bad for the money aned wouldn't look out of place
Personally I think converting an old radio to receive FM/stereo etc etc is like having a P6 and ripping out the engine and putting in a modern unit

This is what I'll be fitting to my daily driver when I get a spare minute. Never been out the box :D

Can see a problem Dave. You say it's never been out of the box. Unless I'm mistaken it is.
Seriously that looks ok and will fit in quite well. The big question is do you have cassettes to put in it ?

:D I knew someone would spot that

...and the answer is a resounding yes..... but it'll mostly hold the cassette-like mp3 adaptor :D

If you were being really period you'd only play tapes from the year when the car was made...

What would that leave you listening to? :D

Dave

It was given to me by a work colleague when he retired. He said it had been in his shed for years.

I like the Hitachi radio/cassette Dave. I am a fan of keeping things as period as possible. Though, I reckon we should only be "allowed" to play music released on or before date of first registration .

This is the radio/cassette fitted now

Sounds great too, even through the standard front & rear speakers.

Thanks to hermione149 for the mounting brackets :D

no more boring journeys.

Mick there's no such thing in a P6 :D It did have a modern stereo fitted previously but I've now got a passenger glove box full of tapes to listen to.
