Hi zusammen!

I am constantly http://listverse.com/ when there is no "Roverporn" to watch ( )

I have read there, I think, something about an animal that screeches at night in the British woods, and that noise is frequenty featured in British horror movies.
I THINK that it was about an owl, but I am not sure :?:

(The opening image of one Episode of "The League Of Gentlemen" features those screams.
One of my favorite movie images of all times: Hilary Briss with a hunchback against a lit night sky.
But I cannot remember what episode that is  ...).

Anyways, I would love to know what animal that is, as I always believed that the screams were fictional - or greatly exaggerated at least... .

Who is the Horror flic/nature/bird/night active animal expert to tell me?

DANKE!

These days it would be the sound of foxes fighting in dustbins or copulating hedgehogs. But the owl has featured in many a classic horror flick or any film wanting to rachet up the tension in a night-time scene.

Personally, I think the foxes & hedgehogs have the edge over the owl when it comes to eerie night sounds.

The screaches you hear would be Barn Owls. Tawny Owls are the ones that hoot (twit twoo as we say :D )

Barn owls are very good at flitting silently between trees giving you glimpses of ghostly white apparitions and probably account for most of those sorts of ghost stories. The bloodcurdling screech adds to the effect.
