Is your Rover a suffix E? If you have a look at the body number which appears on a metal plate attached to the left hand inner guard within the engine bay, it shall be revealed.
Now a general question for all. I am wondering when Rover's manufacturing year began and finished? I have a feeling that it was fairly early on, rather than later in the year. As an example of what I am referring to, the Italian bicycle frame manufacturer Bianchi has a manufacturing year running from September till August of the following year, so you can buy the 2014 model in September of 2013.
So maybe the 1974 models were available during August or even earlier in 1973 within the U.K?

Update. According to James Taylor's book, the Rover model year ran from October till September, so the 1974 models became available during September 1973.
