P6 Estate banger

Good lord! What an utterly horrifying set of photo's! There's somrething to offend and appall just about everybody in there! Never mind the P6 estate Rudiger - that's the least rare gem on its way to destruction. What about the Allard, 3 1/2 ltr Jaguar, pre war Jowett, Daimler, Corsair, Zodiacs, type 3 VW, Triumph estate... I could go on for ages. Quite stomach turning.

Such a waste of cars! I think that that P6 estate could well be the almond one that was up for sale for a while, and eventually came down to £300, that a lot of people on here said was too rotten to be restored. A pity. The door bottoms certainly look rotten in that photo. It's disgraceful how many interesting cars are destroyed at these events.

I didn't even click on the links Ruediger as I did not want to see any disturbing scenes

The car was pictured at an event this year, not in 2009. I met the "driver and co driver" at the Trentham Show at the weekend. They brought me the pictures of the car before they raced it.
I did met the same guys last year at the same event and they told me then, they had found an estate just outside Wolverhampton and I asked if I could have a look and they told me I would be contacted, but they never did.
I didn't know of this particular estate and hadn't seen it advertised anywhere and it wasn't the almond one either, but unfortunately, it slipped through the nets. They said it was beyond restoration and showed me pictures of the floor or lack of it, where both footwells had gone and the boot floor. I did however ask why they hadn't saved the conversion? To which they replied 'it wasn't worth it!' I did beg to differ, but its all too late now. Had they given me the chance to buy it off them last year I would have done, if nothing else but to save the conversion and put onto another baseunit, but at that time, they said they were going to restore it!

Hi, I wonder Mark how much you thought you would have to pay them for
the car. I was wandering round Ebay the other day when I came across an
Austin westminster all stripped out, no engine and gearbox and clearly
aimed at his fellow banger racers. He had had bids taking it up to £550.
Banger racing ain't cheap, you can see why they resort to nicking them,
and are cagey about their cars.

I saw a Vanden Plas Princess 4 litre in someone's front garden the other day ,all stripped out for banger racing
Didn't look that far gone ,what a waste

I guess this is going to happen right up to the point where people will pay more to have a car than to destroy a car.....

Bearing in mind that there was an Allard, an SS jaguar and various other exotica in that line up, all of which would fetch into fuve fugures even if not roadworthy, the bills could be quite big....

The car I am driving everyday now, MXC 977D, was almost fell victim to the banger boys but fortunately for the car, the previous owner wanted it to survive and thrive, and not die, hence he sold it to me a lower price that the banger boys had offered. The problem is that many people out there would rather take the higher price than worry about what will happen to the car. And now when it comes to banger racing, it would appear that it is indeed getting harder to find suitable cars especially when they do the special 'classic demolition events' and they are, as you have already said either paying more or just plain, nicking them, so please look after yours!.

As for the question of what price for the estate last year, the guys told me they were going to restore it to the road and as I said, I did ask to go and see the car and offered support. And they were 'supposedly' going to get in touch but didn't, so I didn't get a change to make them an offer. I did tell them at the time, that if they were considering selling it, I would be interested.....what more could I do?

The irony of MXC is that it is the third car in 24 months that I have saved from either the breakers or the banger boys. The other two are sitting on our front 'lawn' and Angie is not happy, she wants to see 'green grass' not almond and corsica.

The almond one is a 2200 auto, looks tatty but is solid and runs. The Corsica is a 2000 auto solid and reasonable to look at but with no engine or box. Both will find their way back to the road as others have that I have rescued in the passed.

The more P6's you rescue , the less time you need to spend cutting the grass !
There seems to be big money to be spent on bangers although the prize money isn't great ( I believe)
I would suggest it's a "showing - off " sort of thing

Is that the one that had a Rolls-Royce engine and leather/walnut interior? Mass produced Rolls-Royce for the masses?

At only 6,000 odd made, it must be quite rare.

hi mate i am new on here and am the one that raced the p6 estate at mildenhalls pre70 meeting. i can honestly say that i have never met you before as i dont go to car shows, mainly to lack of time. the car was found by me 5 mins from wolverhampton town centre in an old commercial vehicle sales yard and i paid £325 for it. it had been sat since 1991, last taxed in 84 and was completley rotten. i am a self employed car body repairer and if it was saveable then i would have done the work as i am aware of what an immaculate example would be worth. i think you must have been talking to a couple of mates of mine as they do the shows in a mk2 granada. i had no idea you wished to view the car and you would have been more than welcome to and after it was raced it sat in the yard for nearly a month. i tried several times to get hold of a rover club in wolverhampton which i guess is run by yourself but unfortunatly i couldnt get an answer and was unable to leave a message. despite having a few holes due to being built for racing the conversion could possibly have been saved but as i couldnt get contact with anyone i let it go as i needed the space in my yard. i do still have the side and rear windows if they are of use to anyone

cheers, mark.

Hello Mr Challo. There is a regular contributor to this Forum with the username KiwiRover, who is definitely looking for a rear window for his Rover P6 Estate restoration project. He is, however, based in New Zealand. Never-the-less, I imagine he would be very happy to hear from you.
