Please excuse my ignorance -but Im just after a quick answer.
I know its been discussed before, just cant find the thread.
what is involved with transforming a manual [flywheel] to an auto box.
I understand the crank shaft is shorter on one of them and is a major surgery to convert.

The crankshaft is identical. The flywheel is different. The spigot bush that is fitted into the back end of the crank has a different inner diameter.
The transmission tunnel in the automatic cars is wider than the manual cars. Might be a tight fit cramming an auto box into a manual tunnel.
Looking at your signature, I'm wondering what BMS stands for?

Spigot bush is the same id, but steel, so it must be changed. A BW65 might fit in the manual tunnel. Propshaft is shorter, speedo cable is different, rear mount is different, radiator is different.

thanks guys -much appreciated. There's a worked and unused V8 manual on our local Trademe website ,but I think it will be a mission

Harvey has given great advise and information. my own understanding is a manual tunnel is very very tight and may need modification when going auto but auto to manual is far easier as tunnel is bigger.

My bad. Sorry.
FWIW, I would be inclined not to attempt the changeover, but look for a nice auto 3500 so as to be able to own one of each flavour!
My BW35 was restored a year ago using modern parts eg teflon bands etc. My idea was to replace my 50yo 3.5 motor with this nicely worked V8 .Unfortunately its presently mated to a manual box. Just going through the mental gymnastics of doing the change over.
Not now
thanks guys
