P6's on eBay...

Am I missing something here. A bloke buys a car on ebay that nobody else bids on with a lot of rareish bits. He takes the bits off that are worth money and then trades on the car ... whats wrong with that?

Agreed, if it was stated to the previous owner that it would stay complete and as such could be bought for peanuts, then that is wrong .... but a car bought on the open market is fair game.

Why he has to be reported to the council, tax authoroties etc is ridiculous to me :?

Nice one Fraser - thanks!

EDIT

The Facebook account would seem to actually belong to his son
Just had another email through eBay from 'Bob' threatening me,
like I said before seems to be a nice guy.....

Just checking the Laws on Slander & Libel before I consider posting it.

If Mods wish to go through this thread feel free, although at present I see nothing wrong with the content
apart from the fact the 'Bob' discussion posts could probably do with being split out into another thread.

Chris, Richard or other Mods feel free to contact me on the usual numbers should you wish to discuss my posts.

because

1. He is buying and selling on eBay and is registered as a private seller not a business.
Business sellers pay different listing rates and final value fees
- it would probably be to his advantage to register as a business on eBay

2. He is obviously a business and should be registered as such with the local authority.
There may even be a restriction on work done and use of his lock-up
quite common these days they are to be used for store of car / vehicle only.
Lock-ups used for business purposes are subject to business rates not domestic rates

3. All income in the UK is taxable - after legal deductions -
why should this guy get a jump on those traders who register and pay their taxes

Any problems with any of the above?

As I said in my previous post, he said he would restore it and not strip it for bits. Even on Facebook he says he was putting her back on the road, that's why I enquired how the project was coming on as it was already on E-Bay for sale again.
His excuse for stripping the last S1 of Rostyles and breaking it was that his welder had broken  Come on
I let Steve know as soon as this hit E-Bay, as he presumed it would be scrapped after the parts flogged off for a quick buck. At least he now knows WHJ will live on in a new guise 8)
Lots happens in the world you can do nothing about, don't make it right though :(
People can do as they wish, doesn't make me approve, and as a car fan I see it as 'Unfair Game' to strip/scrap something that should be preserved :(

Is he a business? Is he not entitled to do as he pleases? I will sell a car to friends at a discount rate or what I paid for it, IF IT IS A KEEPER for them. I object to selling something which is then only sold on at true value if I have been told "I really want it for myself as a keeper". If that person is a third pary and the car was on the open market, then all fool the person who sold it too cheap.

Did he buy it under this guise or just buy on the open market and asset strip for gain? Whats to say he hasnt an E Type he will sink the funds into, who knows????

To threaten tax man and local authories is in my mind too harsh!! Leave the bloke alone, but dont sell to him in future if he poses as an enthusiast. As for him being rude, well what can one expect when threatened in this fashion.

I have to say the car looks a nice motor and it is a shame to see it raped even down to its headrests ... but there you go. The lesson for us all is to steer clear of Mr McKay..... unless you want a set of Rostyles for your car :D

Wow this thread turn bad all of a sudden. I don't want to comment on what others said but I would say for all of us there maybe a moral to the story. If you wish to sell your car but don't want it stripped ( I bet mine would for it's new engine) or want to ensure it's looked after, then don't sell it. Just the way things are, look at what happened to the PC rover. Sold with in the same week as it was handed over.

I'm sure I've heard Bob McKay's name somewhere before, but I can't place it at the moment. In a good light I might add, no "avoid" connotations.

I think the only thing I have a problem with here in Bob's actions is that he does seem to have misled Steve.pss somewhat. I can't believe with the timeframes involved that he didn't know he was going to do all this when he bought the car. A lesson for all of us really; if you have definite views on what should happen to your car, then don't sell on Ebay. Sell here or via the RSR or whatever so that you get to choose who gets to buy it.

Nevertheless Bob's correspondence sounds rather toxic and I find that sort of thing unforgiveable. If he doesn't like the message received just delete it and don't respond! There are other examples in P6 land that are similar - I once dealt with a guy in Birmingham who was P6ing for a living and was similarely unpleasant. He allegedly finished up dissapearing in Ireland!

Ah well!

Chris

I hate it when a thread goes sour...!!! I suppose this is a perfect lesson in 'don't trust anybody' no matter what they tell you. A hell of a lot of people out there are very good at telling other people exactly what they want to hear... There are most certainly two sides to this argument though and I'm not going to give my opinion on either...

Agreeded, can a modirator lock this thread so we can start again on topic. :) This thread is one to chat about over a few pints..... :)

Oh, look, a nice orangey-read V8 auto relisted on eBay (with appraisal comments by P6 Club member)!
Item no. 280505949247

Just read the description myself, it needed a patch on the sill for MOT after having sills replaced at all levels :|
Wonder if they made him patch the sill cover :?
Looks a promising car for someone to improve as they go :)

hi,

does this look like a factory paint/interior combo? Also can anyone tell me anything about the wheels and the white rim... I've seen these on other cars and find it looks good.. what needs to be done to achieve the same look on another car :)

Thanks,

The last time this car was on the bay (about 3 years ago) it was sporting a towbar and a white vinyl roof,... and if i'm not mistaken,it was also used in the 2008 movie "The Bank Job"

As far as the wheels are concerned,i think they are standard rims painted white,.....

I knew I had pics somewhere

By all accounts it was resprayed by the previous owner, and there is now chipping on the bonnet, around the badge and the door edges. Plus the bottom of the doors are starting to show rust.... nice colour though :D
