parts suppliers / specialist services

Don't know where to post this so I'll try here.

I am new to P6 ownership and one of the major challenges, coming from a background in modern cars where parts suppliers abound, is finding out where and who to trust/source parts from and /or people who can refurbish parts on older cars.

I know parts come up on ebay but this is at times hit and miss.

To illustrate the point:-

In the last 3 weeks I have had need for :-

Water pump refurb
Brake calliper parts
Flexi hoses
Supplier of UNF UNC bolts, washers etc
brake servo refurb
etc etc

I know many of the recognised suppliers can supply a lot of this stuff but I have found other sources locally, sometimes at a fraction of the price of the main suppliers or ebay and very often much better quality

Fancy front competition standard flexi hoses, braided with black overs, and stainless fittings for £10 made to measure within 10 minutes of walking into the shop ?
Or a water pump reconditioned for half the price of any seen on ebay, sent and returned within 5 working days?
Recondition front callipers fully refurbished, tested and plated for less than the price I could buy the seals and pistons ?

i am sure many members have had similar experiences.

What this forum is lacking is a section where members can post details of good service they have had or parts details which would be for the benefit of everyone. Also it would help stop people on ebay and suppliers profiteering by trying to jump on the "old car" bandwagon.

I don't know who would be able to start a new section but i thing this would be genuinely useful.

Positive reviews in the forum are always welcome, negative ones aren't due to possible legal problems, however it would be nice to have a defacto sticky somewhere with a list of suppliers people have used.

One thing i would say is that where you have a choice of suppliers, i'd always weigh up whether thay percentage extra is funding the development of p6 specific parts which cant be purchased elsewhere... afterall small turnover is what limits product development....

I gree with that as well Rich, we all should support the "specialist" P6 suppliers, otherwise they will disappear and then where will we be.
