Pathe film of Rover P6 production...

You gotta love that. It's the later part of the video I believe, although there was some stuff there I don't remember seeing before.

I love this film. Notice the badgeless Pre-production Rover, and the amber outside beams.
I'm so glad the war against rust has been won.

Fabulous stuff! Though strange how they mention Reels 1 & 2 from the film are missing, I'm sure they're included in the Rover 2000 video where a chap arrives at the Solihull gates in a P5 to be shown around the factory (all hammed up fabulously of course!)

Great stuff :)
I've often wondered what made them have body coloured door shuts bearing in mind the paint process and dipping etc The Citroen DS for example had the same construction and panel fit etc but opted for satin black shuts just like the Rovers boot surround and engine bay.
Any theories or known reason?

It may have been because the Rover was seen (quite rightly) as a premium product Grim, and a non body colour finish for the door shuts just wouldn't do. Glad they didn't too, it would have looked pretty crap! :)

Mind you, Range Rovers had a satin black finish to the door shuts in the eighties, but I suppose they had the underlying image of a serious off-roader as well as a luxury vehicle......

I've considered doing the door shuts in black, that way you can change body colour whenever you want without touching the base unit.

it is in deed the second part of 'Assignment P6' Rover 2000 video and the quality of the full Hertiage video version is better and not quite so orangey. The full version is 29 minutes and also on the vhs video there is the 35th Monte Carlo Rally showing the rallying rovers (1066). There is also Engineered for Portection (1968) which shows the crash test, International Rally, rover 3500 footage.

All good stuff

Enjoyed this film very much. I've seen parts of this before, plus there was excerts of P6 assignment (when the gent pulls up in P5) ,presumably to gates at Solihull, this was shown in a programme called Classic British Cars, narrated by the late John Peel, of Radio 1/2 fame. I think it was previously shown a few years back on channel 4.
