PDT 389L

Does anyone have any knowledge of this car? Currently in the auction process. It is based in Hayling Island. It is tempting me back to the fold, having a good colour, leather, PAS, & being suitable for a rolling restoration, but primarily within my price band. It sounds good mechanically, but needs paint & a few niggly repairs. One concern is the fact that it has recently had welding done to the inner sills. The concern being whether it has been done to a good standard & whether or not there is further serious rot hidden in the usual places. The starting bid is £900, there being no bids currently with six days to go. I know that a white 3500S sold recently in London for around £1500. That one sounded like it was a bit better than this. May speak to the owner & see if he has a price in mind. But what do you guys think it is worth?

Dave

At £900 it's pretty cheap, and I'm sure it's been on gumtree for a couple of weeks. The white 3500S that you've spotted was kept by its owner in the end, who is a member of this forum. The red one looks like an ideal basis for a rolling resto, though it's not got its original interior, it looks relatively tidy, and for the money will provide you with a lot of fun! :)

Ah, I'm not surprised that he kept it, seemed a real bargain price! The trouble with this one is that the starting bid is £900. The reserve is higher. What would you pay for it?

I've bought a very rough 3500 auto, which isn't tax exempt, for just over a third of the start price for PDT 389L. Without seeing it, I can't give an accurate judgement, but any tax exempt, genuine 3500S is likely to be worth around £1000, with an MOT.
I thought the plate looked familiar. Here's a post from one of the P6 groups of facebook, with a relation of the previous owner's commenting on its condition!

I hope that works!

Cheers Frazzle, that's just the sort of info. I was hoping to discover. will check it out! I was thinking/hoping of a value of around £1000- £1200.

I've sent a message via Fbook. requesting info. The car looked really well cared for back then. It will be again if I get my way.

Well, I've had no response back via the Fbook message, but have spoken to the current owner, who gave a very honest description of the car & its little foibles, pretty much as per the description on Ebay, I saw that it was also advertised elsewhere & was a bit surprised when he told me how much for, was a bit more than I was expecting. I was hoping to seal a deal, but due to work commitments am unable to get down there until Sunday, so it is in the lap of the gods as to whether I succeed in buying it or not. Wish me luck!

Well I managed to be the highest bidder, after a bit of jiggery pokery & a frown or two from the missus. I paid a bit more than I wanted to, but the car had everything that I was looking for, so I'm now a Rover owner again. Will be going down to pick her up next weekend. driving 120 miles back home should give us time to get acquainted. I hope she's as quick as my previous one.

Cheers matey, I hope to,it's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of driving a V8, be good to feel a bit of power beneath my right foot again. Just got to get my van MOT'd & sell it, then concentrate on improving the Rover, bit by bit. Looking forward to getting it back & giving it a good valet.

Many congratulations on the purchase! You'll have an awful lot of fun, I'm sure, and do post up lots of photos, and start a project thread! :D

:) Congratulations and hope you have a smooth trip next weekend. Hope you're not in too much trouble with your Missus. Please keep us posted.

Thanks guys, I hope for a smooth trouble free journey, might take a few tools just in case though. Its been a long time since I've worked much on any car, so I may be asking for the odd bit of advice along the way. I may well start a project thread & will definitely post up some pics next week, with a digital camera this time! Luckily the missus is not too bad really, like my Jack Russell her bark is worse than her bite! Just hope she doesn't want to drive it. The last time I let her drive the Vitesse she ended up driving through our newly built front wall.

Congratulations on the new car! Hope she behaves impeccably on the journey to her new home.

Many thanks Tor, I may take a Birch branch with me as a threat, in case she has bad intentions, in which case you may see an irate bloke thrashing his car by the side of the road a' la John Cleese!

Well, the old girl behaved herself impeccably. I was too apprehensive to enjoy the drive home, 120 odd miles down mostly motorway type roads in a 40 year old motor, which you don't know much about, led to a jaw clenching drive, constantly watching the gauges & listening for odd noises. Luckily, the owner was as good as his word with regard to the condition of the car. He even fixed the blowing exhaust for me (Cheers Lewis) I loved the smell of the leather though, but struggled to remember where all the controls were, although everything seemed to work ok. I started to enjoy myself when I was nearer to home, winding down the window to listen to the V8 music, that brought a smile to my face. I hope to have a closer look tomorrow & maybe give her a bit of a polish up, weather permitting. I do have a couple of questions about a couple of things, but will post those on an appropriate thread. Pictures to follow.
