Petrol filler hose

Whilst replacing my rear screen rubber (and the decker panel being off the car), somehow the chrome fuel cap managed to get some deep scratches in it. :(

I plan to take the fuel filler assembly off, drift the cap pins out and sent the cap off for a rechrome.

I thought it would be a good idea to replace the flexible section of hose which the fuel filler assembly fits into. I am currently looking at places on the net where I can find a replacement. Does anyone know the size of this section of hose?

Hi rp61973, looking at the two pieces I took off my spare '76 they have a 2" id and a (not quite 1/4" wall thickness, more like 7/32" wall thickness) tad under a 2 1/2" od and both hoses on mine were 3" long. Unless they look perished, mine seem to have withstood the test of time both inside and out, they may be ok to stay on once you've taken them off and a closer inspection.
Regarding your footnote about your p6 possibly being a New Zealand CKD, both my P6's were assembled in NZ as confirmed from Rudiger Wickes' website who's info has the first three digits of the chassis number begining with 453 (built between 1971 - 1976) being for CKD RHD (completely knocked down, right hand drive). also you may have on some of your glass panels the "New Zealand Approved" etching as is on my '74 P6 on the front windscreen and side windows.

Shouldnt be a problem getting a spare one from a fellow member! :)
I know I have 2 spares but also have 2 P6's so sadly cant spare one.
If I do come across an extra 1 or 2 and thats possible with the stash ive got I will let you know and it will be on its way F.O.C :)

No, I've had two out of our cars & it didn't even cross my mind to replace them as there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks Pilkie - I have taken a thorough look at the hose with a hi powered torch. It does look OK with no signs of perishing, so I will re-use this once the rechromed cap returns.

Scott, thanks also. I have checked the chassis no, it begins 4511, which is a home market car. Those screen pillar welds are odd though. The welds and painted finish do look factory as opposed to some home-made effort.

apparently the CKD kits had the roof cut off at the base of the pillars then turned upside down and packed inside the body to save space for transport to NZ and welded back into position at the NZ factory then fully assembled. I've seen the welding on my front and centre pillars (not had need for the rear panel off to see the rear pillar weld) so maybe yours was earmarked as a CKD bodyshell for NZ but got assembled in UK instead? in which case you will have the British Standard markings on your glass.

Regards,

Hi Scott,

The odd thing is that the rear screen pillars were never cut. I am not sure about the B/C post as I have never removed the trim. The front pillars have been cut and welded about halfway up. I will get a pic and post it here hoping someone may know something!

The previous owner changed all of the glass for Sundym. Looking at the dots under the Triplex, the glass was from a 1974 car.

My car also has welds on the A-post. Worried that it may have been in a major collision at some time, I examined two other Federal cars which had identical welds. Mine is a Federal car with proper North American serial numbers, bought in London UK and shipped to Canada.
