Pipe to air filter box.. I think??

I've just notice.. I think there should be a pipe of some description that goes from the air filter box (2000 TC 73) to the block? There's nothing there at the moment but it looks like there's something missing as there to juibelee clips on each elbow and what's left of a metal flexi pipe.. If there is what does it do and is there something missing??

What size pipe is it? There is a large bore (over 1") metal flexi pipe that goes to a heat shield vent on the exhaust manifold. It's not critical (earlier cars didn't have it) and the car should run fine without it though it may help a bit in that cold weather.

That's sounds like it.. It's a metal flexi pipe (what's left of it) it runs from the front of airfilter box (where the flap is to adjust summer winter etc) to the side of the block.. Any ideas as to what it does?

For cold weather, the flap closes the cold air intake and opens the warm air intake which takes hot air off the exhaust manifold. Supposed to help warmup and prevent carb icing, improve emissions etc. However, most systems probably don't work anymore and those flexipipes fall to bits when they get old. Basically, replace the pipe if it bothers you (and if you can find one) but don't panic 'cos it's not essential. (Like your tonsils :D )

I find the pipe essential for smooth running at low revs in winter. I haven't tried to get a proper quality replacement, but Halfords do cheap flexi pipe that lasts at least one season. Can't remember which diameter - 90mm?

Just bought one from halfords.. £3,89p fits like a glove.. Haven't noticed a differance but just feels right knowing it's there lol
